Welcome to my world

Chapter 006 SEBASTIAN I stood there, frozen, my ears ringing with Darius’s words. He’d just named me his personal guard. Me???An Omega, the lowest of the pack, now tasked with protecting the Alpha himself. My wolf, Alisander, was practically dancing inside my head, purring so loud it was hard to think straight. I couldn’t believe it. A part of me wanted to laugh, part of me wanted to run and hide, and part of me was just… happy. Really happy. Like, for the first time in forever, I felt like I wasn’t just some nobody. "You’re welcome, by the way," Alisander said, his voice smug but warm. "If you’d kept being stubborn, you’d have missed this. I told you to listen to me." I couldn’t help but grin, even though I was still reeling. “Yeah, yeah, you’re a genius,” I muttered under my breath, thanking him in my head. Alisander had been the one pushing me to show up, to not let the pack’s whispers about Omegas being weak stop me. He’d been there through every doubt, every time I wanted to give up. “Thanks for having my back, Ali.” "Always, kid," he said, and I could feel his pride like a warm glow in my chest. But the happiness didn’t last long. My mind started spinning, and not in a good way. "Why would Darius pick me? An Alpha like him, all power and confidence, choosing an Omega as his personal guard? It didn’t add up." He was the kind of guy who could have anyone he wanted, stronger wolves, Betas, even Gammas. "So why me?" I shifted on my feet, my stomach twisting as a darker thought crept in. "Oh, come on, Sebastian," Alisander chimed in, his tone teasing. "You know why. It's because he can’t forget that mind-blowing blow job you gave him. I bet he’s hoping for a repeat." “Shut up,” I snapped, my face heating up. I glanced around, hoping no one heard me talking to my wolf like an i***t. The memory of that night with Darius hit me hard, his eyes, his voice, the way he’d looked at me like I was more than just an Omega. But that was just one night. It didn’t mean anything." Did it?" I shook my head, trying to push the thought away, but it clung to me like damp clothes. "What if Alisander was right? What if Darius only picked me because he wanted something else?" The idea made my gut churn. I wanted this job because I earned it, not because of… that. "You’re overthinking it," Alisander said. "Just enjoy the moment." “I said shut up,” I muttered, louder this time, drawing a weird look from a passing guard. I ignored him and focused on keeping my face neutral. I wasn’t gonna let my wolf’s teasing or my own doubts mess this up. Not when I’d just gotten the chance of a lifetime. The chief guard, a grizzled Beta named Torren, appeared beside me, his expression all business. “Let’s go, kid,” he said. “I’ll show you to the guards’ quarters.” I nodded, following him through the pack’s main grounds. The guards’ quarters were a low, stone building a good distance from the main pack house. As we walked, I could feel eyes on me, other guards, lounging around or sharpening weapons, all turning to stare. “Look at him,” one guy muttered, his voice low but I'd heard him loud and clear. “An Omega? The Alpha must be blind.” “Bet he used some witch spell to trick Darius,” another said, smirking. “No way an Omega’s strong enough to be a guard.” “Pathetic,” a third voice added. “What’s he gonna do, carry Alpha Darius’s bags?” I kept my head down, my hands clenching into fists. Their words stung, but I wasn’t surprised. Omegas were always the punching bag—too small, too weak, too useless. I’d heard it all my life. But hearing it now, when I’d just been chosen for something this big, made me hurt. I wanted to prove them wrong, but doubt gnawed at me. "What if they were right? What if I couldn’t handle this?" Torren led me into the quarters, a long room lined with bunks and lockers. The new guards were already there, and they were about a dozen of the old guards, and they stopped talking the second I walked in. Their eyes locked on me, sizing me up, and I could feel the hostility like a wall. Torren pointed to an empty bunk. “That’s yours. Get settled.” Before I could even set my bag down, a group of guards stepped forward, blocking my path. The biggest one, a guy with a scar across his cheek, crossed his arms. “You’re the Omega Alpha Darius picked?” he said, his voice dripping with disbelief. “What’s your deal, kid? Did you bribe him or something?” Another guard, shorter but just as mean-looking, laughed. “Yeah, what’s an Omega doing here? You are going to fetch his water or polish his boots?” I froze, my heart pounding. There were too many of them, and they were all bigger than me. I wasn’t a fighter not like them. My life flashed before my eyes, and for a second, I thought they might actually jump me. Alisander growled in my head, "Stand your ground, Sebastian. Don’t let them push you around." “I earned my spot,” I said, forcing my voice to stay steady. “Alpha picked me himself.” Scar-face snorted. “Earned it? You? An Omega lifting anything heavier than a feather is a joke.” The others laughed, closing in tighter. I backed up a step, my bag slipping from my shoulder. I could feel sweat prickling my skin. I wasn’t ready for this. Not yet. “What’s going on here?” a voice boomed from the doorway. Everyone froze. Darius stood there, his broad frame filling the entrance, his blue eyes narrowing as he took in the scene. The guards stepped back, their smirks vanishing. I stared at him, my heart still racing, half-relieved and half-horrified that he’d caught me looking like a scared kid. “Answer me,” Darius said, stepping into the room. “Why are you crowding the kid?” Scar-face cleared his throat, his tough-guy act crumbling. “Sorry, Alpha. We were just… talking to the new guard.” “Talking?” Darius’s voice was sharp, and he crossed his arms, his presence making the room feel smaller. “Looked more like you were ganging up on him. You think that’s how my guards act?” The shorter guard spoke up, his voice shaky. “No, sir. We just… we didn’t think an Omega—” “Didn’t think what?” Darius cut him off. “That an Omega could do the job? I picked Sebastian myself. Every one of you had a chance to prove your strength, and I chose him. You think I’m blind? Or just stupid?” The room went dead silent. The guards exchanged glances, their faces pale. Darius stepped closer, his eyes sweeping over them. “I’ve seen this kid at the market square, lifting crates heavier than some of you can handle. He’s not weak just because he’s an Omega. And if I catch any of you harassing him again, you’re done. Out of the guard, out of the pack. Understood?” “Yes, Alpha,” they mumbled, heads down. Darius turned to me, and I realized I was still staring, my bag half-falling off my shoulder. “Sebastian, what are you doing?” he said, his voice softer but still firm. “You’re my personal guard. How are you supposed to protect my chambers if you’re staying out here, miles from the pack house?” I blinked, my face burning. “Sorry, Alpha,” I said, scrambling to grab my bag. “I didn’t think...” “Get your stuff and follow me,” he said, already turning toward the door. I hurried to gather my things, my hands shaking as I stuffed clothes into my bag. The other guards watched in silence, their earlier bravado gone. I could still feel their eyes on me, but with Darius there, they didn’t dare say a word. I slung my bag over my shoulder and jogged to catch up with him, my heart still pounding from the close call. As we walked toward the main pack house, I glanced at him. “Thanks for stepping in back there,” I said, my voice quieter than I meant it to be. “I didn’t expect that.” Darius chuckled, the sound low and warm. “Couldn’t stand there and let them harass a kid, could I?” I stopped walking, my face heating up again, but this time it was annoyance. “I’m not a kid,” I said, glaring at him. “My name’s Sebastian. And you know that.” He turned to face me, his eyes glinting with amusement. “Relax, Sebastian. You’ll always be a kid to me.” He leaned in closer, his voice dropping. “And don’t worry—our little secret’s safe with me. Welcome to my world, by the way. I hope you prove yourself loyal and trustworthy.”
