Torren and I both sat up straighter in our chairs. The words came out of our mouths at almost the exact same moment.
"What wonderful news?"
Todd was practically bouncing on his feet, clutching a stack of papers to his chest.
His eyes were bright with excitement, the kind of energy that came from a breakthrough after hours of research.
"Well, first things first," Todd gestured at Torren with his free hand. "Get up, lad. Let me have that chair."
Torren blinked. "What?"
"I'm an elder. You're still young and can stand. You'll see many more days to sit comfortably." Todd's tone was matter-of-fact, but there was a hint of amusement in it.
