I knew my father would come with false bravado and a small army to feel more secure, but I also know right behind that mask of machismo is a coward. It didn't make me any less afraid of him though. While he may be a small pathetic man to the rest of the people in this house, to me, he is still the man that has hurt me since I was a little girl. The same man who belittles me, uses me, and makes me feel so inferior to the rest of the world. Since being married to Jeremiah, and living with his family, my new family, I feel stronger. I just can't risk my father taking away any of the strength Jeremiah has been helping me build. I'd rather just stay away from him. Even if it does look like I'm hiding.
