With Bard gone to visit his family in Enderin, a visit that was sure to be brief, considering the conflict there, Firian had the room to himself. He could invite a girl over, but he wasn’t in the mood. It had been too long since he had been alone with his thoughts. He dropped to the floor and started doing pushups. After all the practice, his muscles barely felt the strain.
“Isn’t your Defender giving tests now?” The deep voice belonged to Master Makai, the man who had brought him to the Academy all those years ago.
