18 Kiria Kiria’s serving girls watched her pace outside the doors of the Main. They’d given up on following her from one end of the hall to the other. Sometimes she would stop, listening, but she could hear nothing through the impenetrable doors. It seemed childish to press her ear against the door with the guards watching. She could tell her pacing irritated them enough. “My Kepress,” said one guard, finally. Guards almost never began conversations with Keepers or their families, so it proved just how exasperated he was. “May I ask what it is you’d like to know?” “Nothing,” she said quickly.
