6 Firian Knock, knock, knock! “You’re late for class! Report to Master Jovan immediately!” Bard rolled over and nearly fell off the bed. Firian saw his arm flail into view above him. How did I sleep late? Frantic, Firian grabbed yesterday’s clothes from the floor and pulled them on. Running into the hall, he left Bard standing there, still muttering and blinking the sleep out of his eyes. He ran past the other rooms, down the stairs, and out again into the common area. He didn’t see any trace of the person who had knocked on his door. Still groggy, he approached the nearest Tanyu, a tall older girl. “Excuse me,” he said. If he hadn’t been so desperate, he would never have spoken to her like this. She turned and looked at him. “Excuse me, I’m looking for Master Jovan.” Almost imperce
