EMILY

Uhmm Mom, is everything okay with Dad? He's acting weird like something is wrong…

“No, i don't think so, although he said it's just some issue at work that's all” but don't worry I'm sure if it's something serious your dad will let us know.

“Yeah you're right, I just think he's stressing himself way too much, maybe he needs a break or probably a vacation.

“Alright, Emily help your sister set the table, ohh and tell your brother to go get your father”

‘Yes ma'am’

Dinner was going well, everyone making small conversations, except for Anthony bringing up my breakup issue and ‘dad saying he thinks it was for the best’ everything seems normal.

“”I have an announcement to make”

My dads deep voice boomed from the top of the table, grabbing all our attention immediately.

Everyone stopped talking caught by surprise, waiting for what he had to say.

“”Dad sigh””

“‘I was going to wait until after dinner before i mad the announcement but i think now is the best time, we have been having difficulties in the company and without a solution we are on the verge of loosing everything. (What the hell)

Dad what do you mean by we are loosing everything? You told us everything was fine, how could you leave out this important information from us?...

“”I didn't want to worry any of you about this, and besides i was hoping i would find a solution before it escalated.

Well what's the way forward? Did you at least find something helpful?

“‘Yes i did find something but it's complicated”

Okay great at least we can work with that (but why does he keeps looking at me with sympathy?)

Dad are you alright?

“I hope that one day you can forgive me Emily”

Okay now I'm lost, what are you getting at dad?

I made a deal with an old friend of mine and he has agreed that you are the perfect candidate to marry his son.

“”YOU DID WHAT? Mom yells””

Are you telling me you sold our daughter to keep some stupid company running? What were you thinking?

(I've seen mom angry but this is on a different level)

“No, it won’t.” I wrapped my fingers around the stem of my wineglass

and imagined it was Ben's neck I was strangling instead.

I am not getting married to a complete stranger father, you can't do this to me.

“”I could see in his eyes how he looked guilty””

“‘ I am so sorry Emily but this is the only way, please try to understand”’

Seriously dad? Try to understand? You want me to understand, ohh i understand perfectly well that you sold me out instead of finding a better solution, and now you think I'm just going to move on like nothing happened? Is that what you hoped for father?

“ Emily please, i was only thinking of the family”

“”Maybe you should have thought about that before deciding to give out our daughter on a plater, seriously what were you thinking? Mom yells again”

Feeling conflicted about the news of getting married not long after breaking up and the worst part of it is dad isn't even trying to find another way. Wait ….. What if he doesn't change his mind, (I have to think of something)

“”Look honey it's not like i am marrying you off to someone i don't know, Andreas has been my very good friend for a long time and this union is going to benefit all of us””

But dad it still doesn't make it okay, besides no one does arranged marriages anymore.

“i have made my decision Emily and that is final so i suggest you grow up and start taking responsibility,you are not a kid anymore and you can't always run away like you always do””

I am completely stunned right now, he's not going to change his mind.

“We will be meeting the family in a few days so everyone must be on their best behavior” dad said before walking away to his office and shorting the door behind him.

“Mom, I—” But the words couldn't come out of my mouth.

“Sweetie don't worry okay “I’ll take care

of this . . . uh . . . ,” “this mess.” so be patient, everything is going to be okay.

“Wh—” I start to say. How can it be okay, in what world is this okay? How can dad do this to me? At this rate i can't hold back the tears anymore, i just feel so hurt.

“Baby please don't cry it's all going to be fine i promise,

“Amy please take your sister to her room,

“Why don’t you hop in the shower, sweetie? “I’ll go talk to your dad I'm sure it will all be better in the morning”’.
