Sarah POV
“You look worse, are you alright?” Kate stopped me just as I reached the door of my class room. Looking at me with concern on her face, I suddenly had the urge to cry. I don't know why this hurts so badly. Adrian's rejection really dealt a kind of blow to me. And my wolf raged with fury and at the same time felt hurt.
No this is not right. I am not supposed to cry for him, I know what's at stake. I must control myself and my wolf, I'm definitely dealing with something more than what I thought I bargained for.
“Sarah, are you alright?” Kate called out again, shaking my hands, drawing me back. “Gosh, you seem spaced out. Come in, lecture is about starting” Kate literally dragged me in. Over there, I saw most of my new classmates, majority were humans. I felt eyes on me, which I obviously ignored, but a certain eye caught my attention. A light brown eye seems normal for humans but if looked closely, using my spiritual eye, the whole eyes were covered with red.
A demon
It looked normal as demons were almost common in this world. But something looked weird about her, about her gaze. Kate noticed my gaze before whispering in my ears.
“She's also new. Just like you, she resumed yesterday.” Kate whispers to me,she tends to tell me things I don't know about. “But for some reason, I don't like her” Her next word shocked me. Kate, although I had just spent some little time with her, I have been able to understand her. She is someone with a clear heart, and a clear conscience. Some one like her would hardly have any haters.
“Why do you say that?” I asked Kate, as we both went to our seats. I sat in front of her. While she was at my back.
“She gives me this kind of creep, almost like Adrian, but hers is something. I just can't pinpoint it” I caught my breath, is she some strong demon? No wonder she felt weird to me. I just hoped I wouldn't become enemies with her. Right now I must focus on my mission at hand. Getting close to Adrian is more important now, I just hoped his silent answer meant yes.
The remaining morning was spent doing chemistry and English. During the lunch break, I went out with Kate. During the course of today. Kate had been so helpful. She helped me a lot. We settled our lunch on a spare table, after waiting for like five minutes for the previous occupants.
“What about your sister? Would she be joining us today?” Kate asked me, and to be honest that came as a surprise. I remembered Kate saying she was a big fan of my sister. What quality does my sister have apart from her stormy expression?
“I have no idea.” My eyes scanned the cafeteria, looking for someone, waiting for someone.
“Are you okay? Are you expecting someone?” Kate noticed.
“Nothing, I'm fine” I lean in on my food. While I low my voice. “Does he come in here everytime?”
“Who?”
“Adrian”
“Never. This is the one place Adrian has never visited.”
“Oh” I sip my milkshake, trying to formulate my next plan, getting close to Adrian was definitely going to be tricky. Way more tricky than you know.
“Oh my goodness! It's Kate!” This was the next line I heard. Turning my back, the whole students had rushed towards the door. Kate?
“Your sister is here, hurry, let's go and meet her” Kate ran up to join the crowd. Curiosity got the better of me as I joined in.
What I saw next nearly took my breath away. Kate, her three escorts, with the vampires and demons. Where just passing through. But the real problem lies in the fact that my sister was smiling. Like she was literally smiling. Even her escorts blend in, acting like her friends. It was only that demon guy (the tree killer. I noticed the name, tree killer sounded kinda off. So I decided to just use the word demon)
John, with his bad boy expression, made the girl's heart beat. That they screamed frantically. His eyes actively move around till it settles on me, winking at me or should I say the girls besides me. That I almost covered my eardrum. Those eyes were different, Adrian looked calm and lazy, almost as if he was tired of worldly affairs. But one look was enough to pull you in. While John just has this bad boy look, don't underestimate him. That look can make an entire team of girls fall. While zero, the demon. Having this cold face expression like Adrian. But Adrian looks more natural. His godly handsomeness matches his cold expression. But zero just kinda looks more like this nonchalant kinda guy.
My sister must be really famous for people to know her to this extent. My sister and her groups were just passing by. I made a mental note to ask her about this famous thing.
With the thought of going in to finish my meal. I felt it. That stare. Like an extra eye was watching me, making my body cold, my wolf growl slowly threatening to emerge. That eye was gone the next moment it came. Who was that! Not having the urge to continue eating.
I honestly need to tame my wolf. Unless I won't be able to protect myself, because once my wolf comes out. The chances of me returning to normal was zero. That means it would be the reverse state, My wolf taking over my body. So I need to get into the woods and practice. But my chance of me leaving now will draw Kate suspicious, which I don't want, now.
Kate asked for my reason for wanting to leave and I just answered her question by telling her I was full. While walking out, Kate went on and on telling me how my sister was so cool, controlling two of the most handsome male in the school, this caught my attention.
I asked her if there was anyone much more handsome than them.
“There are actually five. That their handsomeness can rival gods.” Kate started, speaking like a teacher, about to lecture her students.
“From number 5 we have zero, the nonchalant guy with your sister. And our number 4 we have Jason, but there are rumors that he is gay. And number 3 goes to John, every girl's dream guy. And number 2 is Anthony, you will probably meet him one day, he's known for being mysterious. And for our number one, although I hate to say this, we give it Adrian. But you must have noticed him the other day. Even with his attitude, no one can ignore how handsome he is.” Kate listed them down. Knowing this, I went on thinking about how I could tame my wolf. Father told me, it was something I had to learn on my own. Because that's what makes the connection between me and my wolf stronger.
“This is weird, why is Adrian here?”Kate drew my attention. I looked over at where she was looking, and I saw Adrian. Walking into the cafeteria. His expression was cold as usual, but his eyes betrayed him as it searched around his surroundings, till it fell on me, I could swear I saw his expression shifts, before turning more cold. He walks towards the cafeteria.
The chef in charge trembles as Adrian brings his plate forward. The chef hurriedly poured the best of the best. Adrian silently went out. Carrying his food to where Kate and I were eating previously.
Seeing this I had the urge to go meet him. But I stopped eventually, meeting him now wasn't really the best idea. I shouldn't’t be here, every instinct screamed at me to leave. To turn around and walk out of the cafeteria like nothing had happened.
But my feet wouldn’t move. Adrian sat alone at the table Kate and I had just left. Calm and Composed. And yet. My wolf stirred. Not gently this time. A low, dangerous growl echoed in my chest, spreading like wildfire through my veins. My fingers curled slightly, nails pressing into my palm as I tried to ground myself. Not now… I took a step back. Then another. But the moment Adrian lifted his head, Everything snapped. Our eyes met.
And it felt like something inside me broke loose.
A sharp gasp escaped my lips as heat surged through my body. My vision flickered. Normal… then red… then normal again.
No. No, no, no
“Sarah?” Kate’s voice sounded distant. Too distant to me. My wolf wasn’t listening anymore. It was pushing, what I thought about was happening. It was rejecting me.
“I’m fine…” I muttered, though my voice didn’t sound like mine. It came out rough… edged with something wild.
The air grew thick. Heavy. I could hear it Heartbeats.Dozens of them. Too loud. And Too close.
“Sarah, your eyes—”
“I said I’m fine!” I snapped, louder this time around.
All Heads turned, demons, humans, vampires and wolfs.
Damn it. I staggered back slightly, gripping the edge of a nearby table. My breathing came out uneven, sharp. My chest rising and falling too fast.
Control it.
My Father’s voice echoed in my head. Control it, or it will control you. That was what he said the time he watched me trying to tame my wolf.
But how was I supposed to control something that was already slipping? A sudden chill ran down my spine. That feeling again. I turned sharply. And there she was. The demon girl from my class, Standing across the room. Watching me.
No… not just watching She was Smiling. A slow, knowing smile, Like she could see it. My wolf went still for half a second, Then It roared.
A surge of energy burst through me, violent and sudden. My grip tightened on the table until I heard the wood crack slightly beneath my fingers.
Shit.
“Sarah, you’re scaring me—”
“Stay back.” My voice dropped low. A warning, not to Kate, but to everyone. Because I could feel it now, that edge. That thin, dangerous line between control… and losing myself completely.
And I was slipping.
“Enough.” A voice cut through the chaos. Cold and Sharp. Everything in me froze.
I didn’t need to turn around to know it was Adrian.
The air shifted the moment he stepped closer. The noise in my head dulled—just slightly—but enough for me to breathe again.
“Look at me.”
I shook my head immediately. “No…”
If I did,I didn’t know what would happen.
“Sarah.”
My name.
The way he said it—
Low but firm with something underlying
My wolf reacted instantly. But not with anger this time. But with something far more dangerous.
Submission.
My breath hitched. Slowly… against my better judgment… I lifted my gaze. His eyes were locked on mine.
Dark and intense. And for the first time, There was no indifference in them.
Only focus.
“What are you?” he asked quietly.
The question sent a chill through me. Because I didn’t have an answer anymore. Was I a wolf or still human.
“I…” My voice trembled.
Behind him, I saw her again, The demon girl. Still watching and smiling.
Like she was enjoying every second of this. My control slipped. My eyes flashed red. A low growl escaped my throat. And this time.
Adrian didn’t step back. He stepped closer.
