Chapter 21 ‘’I know it's not my business Diabla but I just wanted to know how you were able to kill that man so fast and accurately. It's just seems like you knew the right placed to punch or kick.’’ the driver said in wonder. He wasn’t sure if he would get a reply seeing that all her mind was on the ball. She was very anxious, it was written all over her face and he knew her heart was just like that. No human on the face of this earth would be at peace knowing fully well that they were about to go into a battle that would no doubt be the greatest they had ever undertaken. Luciana chuckled as she thought about what he had said. She knew he was bound to ask her and she was quite marveled at his boldness. Luciana took no offense in this. As a matter of fact, she was quite glad about his boldness. That was how she loved her men to be bold and very daring. ‘’I learnt that from my father.’’ she simply said. The driver remained quiet as he drove towards the front entrance of the great hall where the ball would be held. The place was already teeming with people from all over the world and Luciana couldn’t quite wait to begin. It would be a very satisfying thing to watch as she watched the life drain out of his eyes. Times without numbers, she had fantasized about the moment and she couldn’t quite wait to begin. One thing Luciana knew was that Reed and all of his associates would never get away with this. She would make them pay for all what they had done to her and her family. Her revenge would be brutal and she couldn’t wait to see their faces when the revenge was completed. ‘’We’re here Diabla.’’ the driver said. ‘’Thank you. Keep the car ready for when i want to leave.’’ Luciana said, climbing out of the car. The driver nodded as he took the car towards the parking lot that was reserved for dignitaries. Luciana walked towards the entrance of the grand hall and just before she made her way in, she stopped for a moment to breathe in the scent of the atmosphere. She could practically taste her revenge on her tongue. All she needed to do now was to implement it and she would finally have her revenge. With this in mind, Luciana walked into the building and the first thing that hit her was how beautiful the place was. The grand hall had an overhanging chandelier that casted light all over the hall. The tiles on the ground were a dark shade of black and when the light hit it, it illuminated all around the hall. The murals on the wall were archaic but they were the most beautiful thing Luciana had ever seen. She had to give it to the Fontana’s, they really did know how to design. But all that didn’t matter to Luciana because she was there for one thing and one thing alone and that was to kill and destroy. ‘’Greetings miss. Shall i take you to the punch table?’’ a waiter said, bowing slightly. ‘’By all means do, thank you.’’ Luciana smiled. Luciana looped her hands with the waiter as he led her to a far corner of the table. As she walks with him towards the table, Luciana's heard murmurs all around her. It mostly came from the women who were beautifully dressed just like her but one thing that was prominent in their voice was envy. The women were envious of her. Luciana knew she was the most beautiful woman in the hall but she knew she couldn’t allow that to get into her head because she was there for a completely different thing. Her ball gown was another beauty on its own and she made a promise within herself to thank her fashion designer once again as soon as all this was over. Right now, her aim alone was to lure Reed to herself and begin the total annihilation of the Fontana’s. ‘’I’m in position.’’ Luciana smiled, adjusting her earpiece which was lodged in her ears. Alessandro just knew the time to talk to her and there was no better time than this. ‘’I am too but i’m going for a glass of punch now.’’ she said. The way Luciana spoke, one could hardly notice that she was even talking. It would only take the most observant of lip readers to know that she was actually talking and Luciana also knew that Alessandro was doing the same at the position he was. ‘’Careful dear child, you wouldn’t want to get drunk on your most important night.’’ Alessandro chuckled. ‘’Of course not Alessandro, i am not a kid.’’ Luciana snapped. ‘’My apologies, child. I’ll radio you as soon as something occurs.’’ he said before cutting the connection. ‘’Here is the punch table ma’am. You are free to pick any flavor of your choice.’’ the waiter said. ‘’Hmm… what do you suggest?’’ Luciana said, giving him a disarming smile. The waiter who was trying to act professional lost the battle and ended up smiling more than normal. He had never seen a more beautiful woman in his life. In another life and if he had his way, he could have asked her out for lunch or perhaps dinner but now, he could as well stop dreaming and smell the reality he lived in. ‘’For a beautiful lady like you, i’ll recommend the strawberry flavored drink.’’ the waiter smiled. Luciana pretended to blush as her eyes took in all of the drink on the table. She allowed the waiter to pour a small amount of the drink in her flute. She thanked him and when she took the first sip, she had to admit that the drink was very nice. It had been a long time since she took something like this. It was a breath of fresh air as against the alcoholic drink she was used to. ‘’Very nice i must say.’’ Luciana smiled. ‘’My pleasure.’’ the waiter smiled, bowing a bit. ‘’So do you by chance know if the don would be making an appearance this evening?’’ Luciana asked. If the waiter found her question odd, he didn’t show it. Usually, what most of the ladies would ask him about was Reed, heir apparent and not his father, don Pablo. Nevertheless, father and son were almost the same so what difference did it make? ‘’I don’t know if you’ve heard it yet but the don is really sick.’’ the waiter whispered. If that was his best attempt at whistling, he completely failed. Luciana could have even heard him from a mile away. Another thing she had to reason was that she wasn’t like any other person. She had been trained from a very young age and she knew she couldn’t compare herself to anyone else. ‘’Wow! Is it bad?’’ she asked, feigning surprise. So far so good, her plan was taking shape and she really hoped that nothing would destroy it. This was all she had ever wanted and now, it was finally coming to fruition. ‘’I really don’t know, I'm only a servant in the mansion.’’ he chuckled nervously. ‘’Of course, i understand.’’ Luciana smiled. ‘’But I heard it's pretty bad and the family are planning to fly him out for a much needed surgery,’’ he said. ‘’Ahh i see…’’ Luciana said. ‘’Target approaching. I repeat target approaching.’’ Alessandro said through her earpiece. Reed was approaching and Luciana knew she had to be in place. That was her target, the main reason she was here. ‘’And his son?’’ Luciana said, directing her question to the waiter. ‘’Oh yes, Master Reed would be here. In fact, he should already be on his way.’’ the waiter smiled. Just then, he was called to attend to other matters. This was the first time he had actually spoken to a guest this length. He had to say that she made an interesting person to talk to and he secretly hoped that he could talk to her after the ball. ‘’How close is he?’’ Luciana asked as soon as the waiter left. As she watched him retreating back, she realized that she didn’t even know his name. That made her work easier because she didn’t want to deal with any other person apart from her target which was Reed. ‘’Not quite far anymore. He’s just rounding the bend with two of the escort cars.’’ Alessandro said. ‘’How many are they in total?’’ ‘’Four in total.’’ ‘’Alright. Great job Alessandro. Keep me in the loop as soon as you get any other thing.’’ Luciana said. As soon as she cut the connection, she took a deep breath, releasing all her pent up emotions. For this next part, she wanted to be as free as possible with little to no suspicions at all. That was the only way she could achieve what she wanted to achieve. That and nothing else. ‘’He’s outside.’’ Alessandro said. ‘’Ready.’’ Luciana smiled. Just then, the event compere blew a loud trumpet, announcing the arrival of Reed Fontana, heir apparent to the Fontana dynasty. As he walked in, Luciana once again felt the shortening of breath she had felt when she first met him at the back. She couldn’t quite place it but there was something about him that didn’t quite sit well with her. As she stared at him, she had this urge to protect him which was not what was in her agenda. Luciana knew she had to fight away that feeling because that was not what she intended to do at that moment and it was getting in between her plans. Reed walked into the ballroom amidst cheers and hoots from the various people gathered there. Everyone wanted to touch and speak to him but what Luciana wanted to do was to kill him. She couldn’t quite understand why people couldn’t see him for who he was but she wasn’t surprised because they were all hypocrites. No more, no less. ‘’The dance.’’ the announcer bellowed. Slow waltz music began playing in the background as each lady took on a dancing partner. Some of them who didn’t have tried to hustle for Reed’s attention but little did they know that his eyes were already on Luciana who he had seen the minute he walked into the ball. There was something vaguely familiar about her but he couldn’t quite place where he knew her from. It was strange to say the least and aside from that. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. ‘’May I have this dance.’’ he smiled at Luciana, stretching out his hands. If Luciana was surprised about this, she did a very good job from hiding it from her face. She accepted his hands with a disarming smile as they began the slow dance. ‘’You are very beautiful and you have a charming smile.’’ Reed smiled. ‘’Thank you.’’ Luciana said shyly. ‘’I have a feeling that i’ve met you somewhere before but i can’t quite place it. Where are you from?’’ he asked. Luciana took some time to answer. It was all a part of her plan, the waiting before the final reply was all a part of the grand scheme of things. ‘’You really have no idea.’’ she said, finally.
