Chapter 22

Alessandro who heard everything Luciana was saying to Reed couldn’t quite believe what an actress she was. No one would ever know that everything she was saying was a lie. It would only take an expert liar to do what Luciana was doing. She was good at it and that’s all that matters if they wanted to have their revenge.

‘’Boss. I see another car coming up.’’ a voice said.

Alessandro looked in the direction of the voice and realized that it was one of his men who he had stationed at the east corner of the block they were scouting out from. His eyes were quite filled with something akin to fear and for the life of him, Alessandro couldn’t quite understand what was going on.

As far as he was concerned, they had the whole place surrounded and there was really no need for any of them to feel fear. It wasn’t just a part of the plan.

‘’What is it?’’ Alessandro asked.

‘’I’m sorry to come here sire but i see a lone car approaching the venue of the ball and from the looks of it, the car has no other company.’’ the man said.

Alessandro snatched his binoculars from where he kept it, placing it on his eyes as he looked into the distance. Sure enough, an SUV was approaching and with the way it was speeding, it was coming at full speed.

‘’Get me the infrared, i need to see the inside.’’ Alessandro ordered.

‘’Yes sire.’’

Soon, he had the advanced kind of binoculars which would enable him to see even the farthest places. It was the latest technology that had just been manufactured a few years back and the Andreas were one of the few people who could boast of having something like this.

‘’I see four occupants and from the looks of it, they are fully armed. I don’t see any mark though or a tattoo that they could be with the Fontana’s.’’ Alessandro said.

There was stiff silence around as none of the men dared speak a word without being ordered to. Alessandro was the highest officer commanding the whole group and to be in his presence was an honorable thing and the men knew they couldn’t afford to waste such an opportunity.

Usually, when they went for something like this, it was usually the head of security that handled this whole thing. Alessandro wasn’t concerned about it, the only thing he was concerned about was the reports that each of them brought. He overseed everything and if Luciana wasn’t the next in line, he would have been the leader.

‘’Sir, can i have a look?’’ the one who brought the high spectrum binoculars said.

Alessandro found this odd because there was nothing other people saw that he couldn’t see. In fact, he had one of the best eyesights in the group and was a very good marksman.

‘’Okay, let’s see what you’ve got.’’ Alessandro said.

He handed the binoculars to the man who had spoken. The man took a deep breath before bringing the binoculars up to his face. He scanned the area first before looking into the car to see what he could find.

True to his leader's words, there were four men within the car who had very hard looks on their faces. The marksman searched further, looking deeper into the car and then, that was when he saw it.

Hidden beneath one of the men’s shirts was the signature mark of the Fontana’s. His instincts were right. These men no doubt were a part of the Fontana group but one thing he couldn’t quite understand was why they were heading towards the venue of the ball at top speed.

It just seemed like they were up to something, something that required Reed, the heir to leave immediately.

The marksman quickly explained the situation to Alessandro who kept a straight face all through. Nothing gave him away and soon, his heart was in overdrive as he tried to place his thoughts in a more understandable manner.

‘’We have to stop them,’’ he said.

‘’Yes sir.’’ the marksman said.

‘’Take the positions of everybody and fire at my command,’’ he ordered.

The men quickly did as they were ordered and soon, they were ready to launch. By the last count, they opened fire and soon, the car was riddled with bullets. They had one thing on their side and that was the element of surprise.

Soon, the SUV halted to a stop. Alessandro ordered his men to surround the car as they stealthily moved towards their target. So far so good, everything was quiet within the car but the men knew that they couldn’t be deceived by this.

‘’Do you see a target?’’ Alessandro asked from where he stood at the topmost tower which was a few meters away from the venue of the ball.

‘’Not yet sir.’’ one of the men said.

‘’Be careful and keep your eyes and ears open.’’ Alessandro.

The men walked towards the car without making a single sound. They were already used to it and they knew they couldn’t afford to make any mistakes.

‘’My head.’’ a voice came from within the car.

Upon closer look into the car, the men discovered that one of their bullets had actually hit one of the men which rendered him seriously injured.

‘’Let’s finish them off.’’

Soon, it was a rain of bullets as they men finished the last of the enemies. Soon, all was quiet and all that remained was the haze of gunsmoke that was left from the assault.

‘’Look inside the car, there should be something you can find.’’ Alessandro said.

True to his words, the men discovered so many things. They were quite surprised to know that hadn't they stopped the men, these men would have no doubt caused a whole lot of harm.

They got back to where Alessandro was waiting and as soon as he read what they brought along with them, he was quite glad that they had stopped them.

‘’So they got a tip off that our plan commenced today?’’ he said.

He wasn’t asking anyone in particular and the men knew he didn’t need an answer. All this was very strange to them but all they were grateful was that they were able to repel their intended attacks.

‘’That’s the only logical explanation to all of this. Whoever was behind this would no doubt have told these men of our plans today and what we need to do now is to find out who that person is.’’ Alessandro said.

He was visibly angry now and the men knew that no amount of talking to him would appease his anger.

‘’I have to radio this back to Diabla. You stay here and watch the perimeter, keep your eyes and ears open and any slip up…’’

He didn’t need to complete the statement for the men to know what followed. If there was any mistake on their part, they would pay dearly with their lives.

Back within the grand hall, Luciana was having the best time of her life. She never expected Reed to be this funny and very attentive but still, there was still something at the back of her mind that nagged at her that all what he was saying was a lie.

‘’Diabla, there’s a new development.’’ Alessandro said.

From the tone of his voice, Luciana knew that she had to listen to him because the tone of his voice was all shades serious. If there was one thing Luciana knew about Alessandro, it was that when he was serious about something, she knew.

‘’Oh, i really need to use the bathroom.’’ Luciana told Reed.

‘’Please don’t be long, I would really like to continue our discussion.’’ he smiled.

Just before she left, he kissed her palm as he watched her walk away. Reed couldn’t quite explain it but he had felt something for her, something he hadn’t felt for a woman for a very long time.

There was just something about her that he couldn’t quite understand. It was there, just waiting for him to grasp.

‘’I’ll unravel you pretty soon.’’ Reed murmured.

Luciana walked towards the bathroom, shutting the door behind her. There was nothing she needed more now than absolute silence and this was the only place she could get it.

‘’Alessandro what’s up?’’ Luciana asked.

‘’There were a group of men who were heading your way. They were five in all and were driving an SUV. From what we got from Diabla, they knew about our plans and that points to one thing… we have a spy in our midst.’’ Alessandro said.

Upon hearing this, Luciana closed her eyes for a bit. If there was one thing she hated, it was having to deal with a spy in their midst and she knew that Alessandro couldn’t be mistaken. There was truly a spy in the midst.

‘’The men?’’ she asked.

‘’Taken care of.’’ Alessandro simply said.

‘’Okay, good… very good.’’

‘’How’s it with the heir?’’ Alessandro asked.

‘’Luring him towards me as surely as i can and all i can say is he is falling for it.’’ Luciana chuckled.

‘’Good. Keep him as close as you can.’’ Alessandro said.

‘’What do we do about what happened? We need to address this as soon as possible.’’ Luciana said.

Alessandro knew she was right but for now, all they needed to do was to focus on the task at hand and when they were done, they could move onto the next phase.

‘’We’ll handle it. Just focus on this first.’’ Alessandro said.

Luciana sighed as she walked back towards the man she was to destroy.
