Chapter 32 ‘’The Fontana’s have sought for outside help.’’ Luciana began. If Alessandro was surprised to hear this, he hid it well. For a group not so grounded as the Fontana’s, he had a feeling that they might likely have sought outside help. Now, it was happening and he didn’t know what to make of it. ‘’Wow! Really, wow!’’ Alessandro said. ‘’I know, that was my initial expression when he told me this.’’ Luciana said. With those words, she had committed herself and she knew it was best for her to tell him everything at that moment because he would never stop until he found out what she really meant by those words. ‘’Diabla, what do you mean?’’ Alessandro asked. Luciana sighed, taking a deep breath. She didn’t want to be seen as a traitor. Even though she was the head and could do as she pleases, her loyalty still remained with her group and she would rather die than compromise that. ‘’I lied when i told you i went to see the accident victim.’’ Luciana said. ‘’I knew you were lying but I just didn’t know where you went. So my guess is that you went to see the boy, Reed.’’ Alessandro said. He didn’t pose it as a question so Luciana didn’t see the need to answer him. Another thing she noticed was that he wasn’t surprised which just left her feeling confused. Was this man ever surprised? Luciana pushed that thought for another day, promising to dwell on it when she was more settled. ‘’Yes Andro, i went to see him.’’ Luciana said. ‘’I see… and i assume he gave you some information?’’ That was a question and Luciana knew he needed an answer to it. She took a sip of her hot coffee, taking her mind back to what her and Reed had discussed. ‘’Yes, he did. Asides seeking for outside help, they are planning something big Alessandro and that wouldn’t be funny so we have to be prepared.’’ Luciana said. Alessandro sighed, going over to sit down at the kitchen chair. There were many things going on in his mind and top on the list was this. If the Fontana’s were planning something as huge as this, it only meant that it was going to be huge and in the least, very bloody. ‘’Okay. Did he mention any other thing we need to know?’’ ‘’That’s pretty much it. Alessandro, what do we do? For the first time in a long while, I'm actually very scared. If the Fontana’s are planning something as huge as this, we need to go above board.’’ Luciana said. ‘’I understand kid but don’t worry, we’ll deal with it.’’ Alessandro said. The way he was just so calm about everything was really surprising to Luciana. She was here, practically losing her mind and he was just so calm and collected. ‘’How are you this calm?’’ Luciana asked. Alessandro chuckled, taking a sip of his coffee. There were many things he could get agitated over but not this. ‘’In times like this, you have to be calm. This is actually not the time for you to panic or scream because in doing so, you would make a mistake and right now, that is not something we can afford doing so our best bet is to remain calm and think of a way out.’’ Alessandro said. Luciana saw sense in what he said but still, she was finding it hard to do what he said because it just seemed like her body was wired to panic. ‘’But you love him don’t you?’’ Alessandro asked. That was not a question Luciana was expecting. The question made her uncomfortable but she knew she had to answer him. Now, she had a feeling that Alessandro was getting a clear picture of what was going on and Luciana wasn’t quite sure she was comfortable with it. ‘’I… ‘’ ‘’That’s answer enough.’’ Alessandro said, rising to his feet. ‘’What? You’re not going to scream at me, shout… you’re just walking away?’’ Luciana asked. She was surprised to say the least because he had never done something like this before. He rinsed his mug in the sink, turning to face her. The last thing she expected to see was a smile on his face. Nothing about this situation was funny so she was quite surprised why he was smiling. ‘’You.’’ he simply said. ‘’What? Me? What did i do?’’ Luciana asked. There was a confused expression on her face as she stared at the man who had practically raised her right from infancy. ‘’You are the weapon,’’ he said. ‘’Andro, you are speaking in parables now. I’m not sure i understand you.’’ Luciana said. ‘’You are the weapon child, the perfect bait to bring the Fontana’s down.’’ Alessandro said. That was when clarity hit Luciana like a thunderbolt. Now, she understood what Alessandro was saying and she didn’t know whether she liked it. ‘’So you are saying i should get closer to Reed in hopes of him giving me some information?’’ Luciana asked. ‘’Yes of course but don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. None of the other elders will hear about this. It's just me and you kid.’’ Alessandro smiled. ‘’But what if they suspect me? What should I do? They aren’y exactly dumb you know.’’ Luciana said. ‘’I know and that’s why we have to be careful especially since we are doing something like this. We wouldn’t want them to know what we are up to right?’’ Alessandro smiled. ‘’Right.’’ Luciana smiled. He walked out of the kitchen but just before he left, he turned to face her. He stood there for several seconds, simply staring into space. ‘’Do what you have to do Luciana but don’t go too far.’’ he said before walking away. Luciana sat back as she casted her mind back to what he said. She perfectly understood what he said and at that moment, she was ready to do all it takes to help her family. Now, she was in charge and she would use every available resource at her disposal. ************************** ‘’Hey love, missing me already.’’ Reed smiled. He was at the mansion’s library when Luciana’s call came in. He was quite surprised that she was calling him so soon even after their semi awkward encounter the previous day. He had thought she would never speak to him again which was something he was expecting but he was quite glad that she called him. ‘’Oh please… don’t think you’re so high i continually need to speak to you.’’ Luciana said. Reed laughed and upon hearing that, it warmed her heart. He was handsome, that much she knew and he had a goodness within him that really didn’t fit where he belonged. As far as she was concerned, Reed Fontana was a good man. He was only at the wrong place. ‘’So why then did you call me if you didn’t want to hear my voice.’’ he pushed. Luciana laughed, a deep belly laughter that sent joy straight to Reed’s heart. Just like him, Luciana also didn’t need to be where she was. She was just caught up in an age long war that had nothing to do with either of them but in that moment, Reed was ready to change the course of things. ‘’Well… for starters, its because i miss you so don’t get too full of yourself.’’ Luciana laughed. ‘’I miss you too honey. I wish I could hold you right now… and I'm sorry for how I barged into your room. I know it was uncalled for. I’m sorry.’’ Reed sighed. ‘’Its okay, i was just surprised and scared because i didn’t want you to get killed.’’ Luciana sighed. ‘’Let me make it up to you.’’ Reed said. Upon hearing that, Luciana’s heart picked up speed. She had been thinking of how she could tell him that she wanted to see him and now, he said it first. ‘’Okay… in what way?’’ Luciana smiled. ‘’My hotel, downtown.’’ Reed said. Somehow, Luciana knew what hotel he was talking about. She had driven past it a few times and she vividly remembered admiring the beautiful edifice but what she didn’t know was that Reed owned it. ‘’That’s some investment.’’ Luciana said. ‘’Thank you ma cherie.’’ Reed chuckled. They remained silent for a while, each with their own thoughts. She wanted to see Reed, badly but another thing was that if she did again, she would be committing herself more and more to it. ‘’So are you game my love.’’ Reed smiled. ‘’I’ll be there in an hour.’’ Luciana smiled. ‘’I’ll be waiting. Love you.’’ Reed said before cutting the call. Luciana practically skipped to the bathroom, giddy with excitement. She couldn’t remember the last time she was this happy. The only time she was happy was when she was putting a bullet in an enemy’s heart but that didn’t count because she wasn’t a cold hearted killer. Luciana took her bath quickly, dressing up in a thigh revealing gown. She looked so sexy she had a hard time believing it was her. She tied her jet black hair into a high ponytail before applying blood red lipstick. Now, she was ready to meet her lover. Luciana snatched the keys to her Porsche from the collection of keys hanging in the hallway. Before she left, she tiptoed towards the library where she knew Alessandro might be. That seemed to be his most favorite place in the whole mansion and she knew why. It was due to the fact that he wanted to get more information about the latest weaponry and devices for war. One thing about him was that he would never settle for less. Sure enough, he was there. His head was practically touching the book he was reading. His reading glasses made him look like a college professor which made Luciana smile because she knew right there and then that he was in his element. Luciana tiptoed back towards the entrance of the mansion. She climbed into her car before driving off. As she made her way downtown, her mind went to her cousin, Enzo. She couldn’t quite place it but she had a feeling that he was about to do something. Whatever it was, Luciana was ready for him.
