Chapter 30 Luciana spent the greater part of her day with Reed and she couldn’t quite believe he was very charming and funny. It was true what they said, never believe what people tell you or whatever you read on the internet. Reed was anything but callous and wicked. The way he told tales of old to Luciana like he was there was something she would always remember for the rest of her life. He was smart, funny and the worst shock came when he informed her that he didn’t want any of the war that was about to commence. As far as he was concerned, war wouldn’t achieve anything, just unnecessary bloodshed and more out of school children. There was nothing like sitting down amongst the people that mattered and ironing one’s differences out. That was the best thing to do especially in times like this. ‘’I don’t want any of this Luciana, you’ve got to believe me.’’ Reed begged. They were laying in bed with Reed’s arms around Luciana’s luscious body. She breathed in his scent, loving the way it covered her from head to toe. Everything was moving too fast and she was quite scared she was making a hell of a mistake but at the same time, she had never been so sure of anything as she was of this. Never in her life had she met a man so honest and down to earth. Even her father hadn’t been totally honest in all of his dealings and she knew it. The most amazing part of it all was that Reed wanted her happiness. When she told him of the days she had been sad and withdrawn from everyone else, he had been genuinely sad and also angry. ‘’I believe you Reed.’’ Luciana smiled, cupping his jaw. His face, which she had no doubt was sculptured before no man could have such a perfect face, broke into a pleasant smile, one that filled her heart with joy and happiness. This was what she had always wanted, a man that loved her for who she was and not what she was. Reed saw above all of her riches, all of her powers and loved the little girl inside of her. ‘’You do?’’ he asked, sitting up. He couldn’t quite believe his ears. He wanted to see her face to know she wasn’t bluffing and her face was one of full conviction and sincerity. ‘’What did I do to deserve you?’’ he sighed. ‘’Well, let’s just say we share the same beliefs and the same ideologies and so, that’s why you have me.’’ Luciana smiled. Reed couldn’t help but kiss her at that moment because with her, he had finally found his home. ‘’It just sucks that we can’t go public with this, i could have showed you off to the freaking world.’’ Reed seethed. ‘’Its okay feisty boy, i understand and until all of this is iver, i’m afraid my love we just have to do this in secret.’’ Luciana sighed. Just then, her phone gave a loud beep, indicating she had a call. Glancing at the caller ID, Luciana discovered that it was Alessandro calling. She sighed because she knew what was coming. She had been gone for over two hours now and she knew he was beginning to worry. ‘’Hey guardian.’’ Luciana smiled. ‘’Where the hell are you?!’’ Alessandro barked. ‘’Huh… take it easy Andro, at least I'm not dead. I’m still at the place.’’ Luciana said. Reed’s face was masked in confusion upon hearing what she said. Had she really told Alessandro where she was going. If she did, she was making a big mistake because her men would storm this place and raise it to the ground if they had to. ‘’Calm down, i didn’t give him shit.’’ Luciana whispered. ‘’What did you say?’’ Alessandro asked. ‘’I said i’m still at the place but i’ll be leaving soon.’’ Luciana said. ‘’I see… and how is she?’’ ‘’She’s hurt, badly but she’ll pull through.’’ ‘’Alright. Be home soon Diabla.’’ Alessandro said before cutting the call. Luciana sighed, placing her phone back on her bedside table. Alessandro was always fond of worrying over her even when she had told him times without number that she was a grown up woman now. He never seemed to listen. In his eyes, she was still that six year old girl he took for a stroll around her father’s garden. ‘’I understand why he’s worrying. Luciana, to be honest you have a lot of enemies.’’ Reed sighed. He rose up from the bed, walking towards the liquor cabinet at the corner of the large room. ‘’Drink?’’ ‘’Yes please.’’ Luciana said. ‘’You have enemies Luciana, a whole lot of them and it's not only within the Fontana group.’’ Reed said. A lot of things didn’t scare Luciana but what Reed had said scared her to the bone marrow. The way it was, she knew she had to prepare for a full fledged war very soon because these people, whoever they were, wouldn't rest until they saw that she was dead. ‘’There’s an information i just received yesterday night.’’ Reed said, handing her a glass of bourbon. ‘’Thank you.’’ Luciana said. ‘’Anytime. So this information has it that Fontana has liaise with an underground sect located in New york to wage war against your family.’’ Reed said. ‘’What the hell?!’’ Luciana seethed. She downed the rest of her drink in one gulp. This wasn’t the time for a leisure drink and she knew she wouldn’t be at peace to even enjoy it. ‘’I know. That’s what I thought too when I heard it. Luciana, all this, all of this is bigger than what we ever imagined. The Fontana’s are angry and it pains my heart because I never wanted to be a part of it and as the heir, there’s no way I can distance myself from all of this. It would surely raise suspicions.’’ Reed said. He was helpless at that point which was the very thing he hated. He hated feeling weak and defenseless when he knew he could do something to help but as it was, his hands were completely tied. ‘’Cowards! All of them. Why can’t they face me? Why do they have to enlist the help of an outside organization.’’ Luciana seethed. ‘’I agree with that. The truth is the Andreas family is much more bigger than the Fontana’s put together and if we were to go on a killing rampage, it is without a doubt that your family would totally annihilate mine and so that’s why they sought out for help.’’ Reed said. Luciana slammed her glass hard on the bed as she paced about the room. Asides all of this, a nagging thought flickered through her mind. She caught it just before it went out completely and when she dwelled on it, she didn’t think she was ready to know the answers. ‘’Reed.’’ Luciana said. ‘’Yeah?’’ ‘’I want you to answer this question with utmost honesty and fairness. Please don’t lie to me because it would really break my heart.’’ Luciana said with a hurt look in her eyes. The way she stared at him broke his heart. In the space of over two hours he had gotten intimate with her, she had never looked at him that way before. ‘’Baby, what’s the problem?’’ Reed asked, his heart pounding in his chest. Just before he could get closer to her, Luciana raised a hand to stop him from moving any further. ‘’Please, don’t come closer. For this, i need you to keep your distance.’’ she said. Reed was worried and frustrated because he didn’t know what was going through her mind but whatever it was, it couldn’t be good. ‘’Please just tell me what's wrong. You’re scaring me.’’ he said. ‘’If you hadn’t met me today, would you still have given me this information?’’ Luciana asked. At that moment, she was quite happy she was good at reading people’s behavior because everything around her at that moment was pointing to the negative. ‘’I…’’ Reed sighed. ‘’I didn’t think so.’’ Luciana smiled sadly before snatching her bag from where she had dumped. ‘’Please Luciana, you’ve got to understand that i’m sworn by secrecy not to expose any of our plans to other people.’’ Reed said. ‘’It's fine Reed. I really don’t know what i was thinking when i thought somehow, we had a small chance of being together. It just means that we can never be compatible because we belong to two completely different worlds and you know what, it's completely fine.’’ Luciana said. She made her way towards the door, flinging it open but to her surprise, the door wouldn’t open. Few seconds later, she realized that it wouldn’t budge no matter how much she tried because the door was electronically powered and it could only be opened by the keycard Juliet, the receptionist had given her. ‘’Now where did i put that damn card.’’ Luciana said, rifling through her bag. ‘’Ist right here.’’ Reed said, showing her the card. ‘’How did you get that out from my bag?’’ Luciana seethed. ‘’It doesn’t matter. We have to sort out this issue between us before you go. I just found you Luciana and i will never let you go.’’ Reed said, walking towards her. This time around, Luciana didn’t bother moving back because there was nowhere for her to run to. Reed placed his warm lips on her’s, pouring all of his emotions in it. Luciana didn’t fight it, instead accepting all that he gave her. ‘’You just know how to disarm a woman.’’ Luciana said. She couldn’t fight the smile that appeared on her face. Reed was a snake and a very fast one at that. ‘’But this doesn’t change the fact that you would have watched me die if you hadn’t given me this information.’’ Luciana said. Reed sighed, drawing her back to the bed. He cupped her jaw, pecking her lips gently. He needed to make her understand that that had been all in the past and now, they were a team. ‘’That’s in the past Luciana. Now, we’re a team and this would never happen again. You’ve got to believe me.’’ Reed said. Luciana stared deep into his eyes and what she saw was utmost sincerity. He wasn’t lying and this wiped away the anger and resentment she had for him a few minutes ago. ‘’I believe you.’’ That was all Reed needed to hear. Now, he could focus on winning the heart of the woman he truly loved.
