I hold on with all of my might as we soar through the night air, terrified out of my mind but having the best time of my life. I’ve never felt so alive. So free. At first, he doesn’t fly directly toward the castle. “Where are we going?” I ask. He looks back at me for a second with those mischievous green eyes, then points his nose ahead and flaps his enormous wings. I can feel the joy radiating from his warm body as he flies for the hills in the distance. Is he taking me to his lair? Oh no. Is his beastly instinct taking over? Am I about to become a lizard snack? He continues flying, weaving and bobbing through the air like a child at play. Then all at once, he flips over. I wasn’t quite ready, so I feel myself slipping from his back. I try to grab on, but my fingertips can’t hold on
