My heart hits the floor. I don’t need to turn around to know who’s caught me. I’m only wondering whether or not my father is armed with a wand, and how angry he is with me. But I don’t have time to look. I just have to get out of here. Intense survival instincts take control of my body. Without pausing to think, I grab the shimmering green wand in the center that looks as if it’s covered in scales. Something drew me to this one specifically, though I’m not sure what it was. When my flesh contacts the rough surface, I feel a humming vibration run through my body. This is what magic feels like. It’s alive.
