87 Deep in the trees, not a creature would sleep as thunder and lightning waged war overhead. Alice and Don ran along the footpath through Lantern Wood. Gunfire chased them all the way, so they broke off for cover behind a giant tree, its roots breaking out of the soil. Don spun back around the tree trunk and let off a round. "I think I got one of 'em in the arm," he said, ducking behind the tree and popping another two cartridges in the chamber.
