Friend Or Foe

591 Words
Roan decided to trust the mysterious mercenary for now. But if she so much as made a wrong move her blood will be the first the sword tastes. The woman slowly and gently pulled the net over her. “there you go kiddo.” She says as Roan huffed looking herself over before slowly getting to her feet. “Roan” Roan says not looking at her but instead of her now shredded clothes. “What?” The woman says in a puzzled tone as she gathers up the net careful to not let anyof it touch her skin, one eye drifting to Roan. “My name is Roan not kiddo.” Roan says in a flat voice. She picked her sword carefully up from the grass minding the sharp edge. “Well Roan, I'm Kai.” Kai says, flashing a smile at the man who flicked his eyes between the two of them and grumbled something under his breath as he pulled off the bag on his back. He opened it, holding it out for Kai to put the net inside. “Luan” Says the man simply not even sparing her a glance as he watched the sharp mesh net being put in the bag carefully. “I know there were others, I heard and smelled them.” Roan says tilting her head in puzzlement, her eyes darting around for any moving shadows. She discreetly smelled the air but didn't catch more then the scent of the two of them. “The others went back to the village once we got you running this way.” Kai saysdusting her gloved hands off on her trousers, tuning to her as Luan closed the bag and slung it back over his shoulders. “They figured our fearless leader and I could handle a single werecreature.” Luan says with a grunt. Roan almost corrected him but stopped herself. It's better they think she is a werecreature they will underestimate her because a shifter is much stronger than an average werecreature. “You were just lucky the net was super strong.” Roan says with a soft growl. “You creatures always think you're so tough.” Luan says with a huff. “Children!” Kai the attention of both of them. “The sun is pretty much set.” She says gesturing to the growing darkness. I don't know about you two but I would like to be by a fire and with food in my belly.” she says with a deep frown. Roan looked away to the ground and Luan rubbed his neck. “Ready?” Kai asked them then headed off before they could answer. Roan cast a look at Luan then slowly followed after Kai with Luan following a few steps behind her muttering to himself. Roan didn't even bother trying to figure out what he was saying to himself. She turned back to Kai still confused about what her deal was and wondering if she could really trust the odd woman. Roan could feel her body practically dragging as she approached the fire in front of her. She flopped on the ground, her back against a log near the fire. Her eyes grew heavy as the whole day seemed to finally hit her like a brick. She fought it hard but she knew it was a matter of time. A smell hit her, jarring her awake to the delicious smell of potato soup. Roan could feel her mouth begin to water as her tired eyes opened.
