Vesper was released the same day the art competition announced its winners. I got third place. The next morning, I went to buy a gown for the awards ceremony. On the way back, I felt someone following me. I sent Leander my location and kept walking. When I passed a dark alley, a man grabbed me and pressed a chloroform-soaked cloth into my face. I held my breath and went limp. He dragged me into the shadows. I quietly turned on my recorder. A woman's heels clicked closer. "Everything went smoothly?" It was Vesper. "Perfect," the man grunted. She dropped a bag of cash on the ground. "Don't kill her. And film everything. The rest will hit your account when you're done." She walked away. My heart hammered against my ribs.
