Chapter 3

“Michael wants the girl and you in his office.” A man popped his head into the room they were in.            Carlos looked at the man, “Good, maybe they have your case solved finally; we’ll get your skinny ass out of here.” Carlos said walking out.            Anabel followed him, her heart raced. Maybe this was it; maybe she was going home or at least waking up. Carlos opened the door to Michael’s office; Anabel followed him in and sat down at the chairs by the desk. Michael wasn’t in his office.            “He’ll be with us in a few minutes, probably finishing up on your case now,” Carlos said looking in her direction.            “Well it was nice knowing you, maybe one day we’ll get to meet again.” She said half smiling at him.            Anabel looked around the room; it reminded her of a therapy room. Some would call it inviting, goosebumps trailed down her arms. “What’s taking so long?” she complained.            “You know most wait an eternity for this moment, just be thankful you were only here for a couple of hours.” He rolled his eyes. “It wasn’t that nice meeting you.” He said shaking his head at her.            Michael walked into the room, “finally, we have some answers.” He said hurrying around to his chair. “I’ve heard from above, apparently they like you two together so they are not rushing to get things done around here.” He said putting the papers in a drawer. “So in the meantime, you two will be hanging out as they call it until further notice. That is all.” He said gesturing for them to leave.            Carlos shook his head, he was okay watching over the girl for a little while, but until they want to allow her to leave or move on he would have to watch over her. No thanks. “Sorry Sir, but what?” Carlos said before Anabel could.            “Well you have one job left Carlos, do you want to mess this one up. You need to do as I ask; there should be no questions and no pouting.” He said looking at Anabel. “Take her to Isaiah; he should be able to assist with getting you where you belong.” He said closing the folder he was looking at.  “So that’s it, I’m free from here?” Anabel asked. “I thought Carlos was supposed to watch over me while I’m here?” she said looking at him.            “Well yes, and no,” Michael said clearing his throat. “You will be going back as a mortal, Heaven has some things you need to do for us, and Carlos will assist you as a guardian as well as a human.” Michael said looking at Carlos “I don’t want to hear anything about it Carlos, this is the final test you fail you go to Hell, got it.”            Michael looked at Anabel, he glanced at Carlos before he answered, and “You are to go where Isaiah tells you.” He said looking at Carlos, “Carlos will get you to the Gate of Redemption.”            Carlos and Anabel stood up at the same time, Anabel quickly walked to the office door. She was half excited about going home. Would anyone believe what she’d been through? Carlos held his head low; he didn’t say anything else until they arrived at the gate.       Anabel stopped in front of another door, Carlos looked up at her. “Here you go; I hope your soul finds peace.” He said before walking away. He knew he had to go with her; he wasn’t ready to face Isaiah and his punishment for failing to protect the girl.                     Carlos disappeared around the corner; Anabel turned to face what she knew was the end of her life and the beginning of something else. Her hands shook as she opened the door; it turned into a long hallway. Walking towards the next door, Anabel glanced at the pictures that hung on the walls. There were angels and devils and earth burning from the core. “Well, that’s not something I want to see if I’m to choose where I want to go.” She said shaking her head.            Walking the final few feet, she held her breath as she opened the door. The room was dark, except for a big gate that had two doors and two guards standing near them. Taking a few more steps, she stood in front of them.            Anabel glanced at both men, one wore a black robe the other wore a white one, “State your name.” The man on the right spoke first; he waited for her to respond.            “Anabel Knight, Michael sent me here to go to my resting place.” She said putting her hands to her side, her body trembled. She wanted the pain in her body to stop hurting; she wanted to look from the globe in Heaven down at her family to make sure they were happy and safe. “I am ready to make my choice.” She said taking in a deep breath.            “You do not get a choice where we send you. We look at what you did for your life and then decide where you go.” The man on the left spoke. “You haven’t done anything bad to go to Hell, so my door will remain closed. However, you are not supposed to go to Heaven for a long time and God does not like lost souls roaming his empire until he calls on you.” He said looking down at the clipboard. “So now what to do with you?” he said glancing up at her. “You were to visit Isaiah. Go back to Carlos he will show you where to go.” He glances at her and then at the other Angel.            Anabel rubbed her arms, she didn’t want to seem rude, but Michael sent her to find Isaiah. “I don’t have to answer to anyone but Isaiah, I was told to find him.” She said crossing her arms. “Unless either one of you are him, I’d suggest you direct me his way.”            The man on the left let out a small chuckle. “We are both, I am of good and he is of evil. We are two of one.” He said.            Anabel shook her head, she was answering two different people. She was already told Hell was staying close, so her body relaxed a little. “Well then where do I go?” she said eager to know.            Before he could answer, the ground started to shake. Anabel fell to the ground, the floor started to c***k under her. Her eyes darted left to right, trying to find the door. Getting to her feet, she stumbled forward; the c***k separated her from the door. Carlos forced the door open, almost falling into the hole. “Anabel!” he yelled.            Anabel looked at him, she was trying to keep her balance, but she wasn’t that good doing it. Look at the gate, she could jump and hopefully make it, or she could fall and hope she wakes up in Heaven and not Hell.             Carlos struggled to keep his balance, he tried reaching Anabel, but she was out of his reach. “Anabel, go through the gate!” he yelled before losing his balance and hitting his back. “Hurry!”            Anabel looked back at Carlos, she was afraid to pick the wrong door she remembered where the men were standing, but the doors were almost on top of each other. “What’s going on here?” she managed to say without losing her balance.            Carlos struggled; he couldn’t get to his feet. “We’re being attacked, this place is neutral ground. Evil and good fight here.” He yelled at her. “Go through the gate, any souls caught here will be captured! Go!”            Anabel looked at the gates, both doors were opened, but they were slowly closing. Stumbling to her feet, she started to crawl up towards them. As she got closer the ground shook harder and harder. Anabel looked back towards Carlos, he struggled with two men. “Get her before she gets away!” a third appeared, pointing at her.            Anabel’s eyes met Carlos’, she didn’t want to leave him behind, but she didn’t want to get caught either. “Go, Anabel!” Carlos yelled before being knocked unconscious.            Struggling to crawl the rest of the way, someone jumped in front of her. “So Anabel, have you made arrangements with your soul?” the evil man growled. He wore a long black trench coat, he wore all black. His black hair had a small silver streak in it, he smiled at her.            Anabel jumped back, falling into the c***k in the floor, screaming. Anabel closed her eyes, pumping on her chest, her eyes darted open, taking a huge breath. “She’s breathing!” the man pushing on her chest. “Get over here with that gurney.” He said looking down at her. “Don’t worry Miss; you’re going to be okay.”            Looking around, she was on the ground; there were paramedics everywhere, police everywhere. “What happened?” she complained, realizing she was in worse pain than before. She remembered everything that happened. “You saved me!” she said tears flowing down her face.            “You were in a car accident, big pile up.” He said putting a neck brace on her.            “Am I alive?” she said closing her eyes, gasping for air.
