Yesterday was really tough. I woke up on the floor, bruised and broken. I tried several times to stand up, but my body just shut down. I could not stand without fainting. That's when Dad came home and found me on the floor—just the place he said he didn’t want to find me. I don’t know what happened, but he dragged me to my room and left me there for the night. I was sure he would beat me more. It wasn’t until I saw myself in the mirror this morning that I understood why. I think it looked like I was going to die. My face was so bruised and bloodied. That’s why he didn’t beat me more.
I didn’t go to school today. My body was so sore, and Dad didn’t mind since I was so bruised up. But I still had to go out shopping for food. My "duties," as he called them, were still there. It was midday before I was ready to go out. It took extra long to move today, and therefore it took 30 minutes for me to reach the store. It hurt so bad. I just wanted to puke.
Finally, finishing shopping, I went on my way home. As I walked through the same alley as yesterday, I suddenly felt somebody behind me. I turned quickly and winced in pain. Thank God for my hood that covered my face.
"I'm sorry if I scared you," the man said.
I looked carefully up without showing my face. It’s the same man from yesterday! s**t. Was he angry?
"Don’t be scared, kitten," his smooth voice said.
Kitten? He must have the wrong person.
"What’s your name?" he asked.
Well, jokes on him, I can’t answer. I shook my head and kept my head down. Little did I know that this man was not one to let a question go unanswered.
"I asked you a question, kitten," he said. Then he yanked off my hood! s**t!
I still kept my head down and didn’t dare look up. That’s when I felt his fingers under my chin. He tilted my head up and forced me to look at him. That’s when his hand suddenly dropped as if he had been burned. When my eyes connected with his dark orbs, he looked shocked.
"What happened to you!?" he said in an angry tone. I just shook my head and turned around, ready to go. He reached for my arm and jerked me back, making me crumble in pain. I sat on the ground on my knees, trying to breathe through the pain.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t think I jerked that hard. Are you okay?"
I continued to look down, shaking my head. The pain just got worse, and I felt my vision blur with black spots.
As a last little hope, I looked up, trying to reach for a hand to help me. I never found one, and everything just went black.
