I woke up from the morning sunrays warming my face. It has been so peaceful staying here with Dominic. Yesterday, I think he came into my room and told me he would not allow anyone to hurt me anymore.

What did he mean? Who? My dad? If he thinks my dad will just roll over, he is wrong. My dad may hate me, but he loves having me around to do everything for him, and let’s not forget, I’m his submissive punching bag.

I hear a soft knock on the door and turn around in bed. Dominic walks in with breakfast on a plate and a soft smile on his face.

He’s been so kind to me while I’ve been here. I don’t know how to repay him. I wave, as if saying hi to him. Then he did something that shocked me so much my eyes almost popped out of my head! He signed "hello" back to me!

I hurriedly reached for my pen and paper.

“Do you know sign language?” I wrote.

“I must admit, that’s the only sign I know. I googled it on my phone. But I’m trying to learn more so we can communicate better,” he said. And that just broke me. Silent tears started rolling down my cheeks.

This big, scary man had been the nicest person I’ve ever met. Here I am, ugly with black-and-blue bruises, and he just went out of his way to protect and comfort me. Nobody has ever done that for me.

“What’s wrong, kitten? Why the tears?” Dominic sat down beside me on the bed and moved my hair behind my ear. I took my paper out and scribbled down an answer.

“That means more than anything to me, Dominic. Thank you.” I dried a few tears with the back of my hand and looked up into his beautiful dark eyes. I don’t know what happened, but at some point, we both leaned in and started kissing. This was my first kiss, so it was a bit awkward at first, but that changed rather quickly. I pulled away and looked down. I felt my cheeks warm. They were probably the same color as a tomato by now.

“Eat up, kitten. I have some business to attend to this morning. But if you’re up for it, I can show you around the house today?”

Oh yes, please, I thought! I happily shook my head yes, with a big smile on my face. Finally, I could get out of this bed!

“Well, eat up and save your energy, and I will come get you later, kitten,” he smiled, and then he walked out of the room.

I kissed Dominic! Oh fudge… what if he’s just playing around and I’m making a total fool out of myself? No, I don’t think he would do that to me. Why act all nice and then be cruel? That’s not the Dominic I’ve come to know over the last week
