We giggled as we followed her swiftly downstairs to the dining table where the table was set. The staircase was made of strong cement and gravel because it hasn’t become weak for a long time so therefore it must be made with good building material. A little renovation was made to the staircase by us though. We asked the bricklayer to add a little bit of marble and some precious and beautiful stone to the edge of the staircase from downstairs to upstairs. The table was made out of white original leather material with golden tappings at the four cornered edges. The table legs are also golden in colour made out of Gopher wood. At the center of the table, a drawing of dragon painted in Gold with red eyes spitting fire. The dragon signifies bravery and courage and that’swhy it’s always seen oftenly in the palace because the Palace is the heart and soul of the country.
“But you don’t have or use dragon in your country, why?” I asked him some years ago.
“Well, the propounder of this symbol is an English from the east side of America who paid a visit to Egypt but died in the war between Egypt and Ethiopia. His means of transportation is by his dragon, black in colour with green eyes and grey dots on its body.
“The name of the dragon is Donil” Nasir said when I asked him.
To honor and remember the English man Handrew that fought tenaciously and rigorously for another man’s land and even sacrificed his life, they used the dragon as the symbol of strength and courage even though it’s not an animal they use in Egypt.
The Chair is also made of white leather just like the table. The edges of the chair is covered with golden tappings and also its four legs.
The floor is cemented and the wall is painted Gold with different paintings of people on the wall. There are also figurines like cat, horse, dogs, camels, donkeys, dragons, etc and flowers of different kinds well set and arranged for beautification and good smell.
The table is set with golden ceramic plates on the table. The plates are not empty of course. They contain mashed rice, meat, smoked fish, plantain, fruits, vegetables, orange juice and water.
Kate, in her cream, short, sleeveless gown sat gloriously on the chair situated at the left hand side of the table. The pharaoh sat on the chair situated in the middle and I sat at the right hand side. Prepared to eat, three servants came to serve each individual-one for me,one for the pharaoh and one for little Kate.
After being served, we said our prayers by holding one another hands before we dig our spoon into the food. The pharaoh led the prayer.
As we were about to eat,the orchestra well arranged at one side of the dining hall dressed in white cotton shirt and black skirt or shirt. The reason why the orchestra wear shirt is because the head of the band, Sir. Timothy is an Egyptian who studied in America so he brought their dress culture to ours. He discussed with pharaoh Nasir who also studied in Paris and they both agreed that the orchestra should dress formal like the Americans and not Egyptian palace servants.
This night, Sir.Timothy is dressed in a black trouser that reached his ankle from his waist, a long sleeve white turtleneck sweater and a black jacket with suspender and a black leather shoe to complement his dress. Sir. Timothy is of average height, fair in complexion, low cut hair and uses recommended glasses because he is short sighted.
The orchestra consist of male and female playing with the violin or saxophone. Their arrangement is well ordered. Their arrangement consist of five rows and ten columns with each chair higher than each other per column for easy sighting of those sitting at the back and to produce harmony between the two instruments.
As Sir. Timothy raised his gloved hands, the orchestra was ready to play by holding their instruments, awaiting Sir. Timothy’s order to start playing. As he(Sir. Timothy) dropped his hands, the orchestra starts playing the violin and saxophone follow swift. The orchestra were playing a solemn beat with the violin leading and the saxophone was backing the violin up. The song was as cool and nice like the atmosphere and food.
We all started by having the mashed rice, plantain, vegetable, turkey and Fish. Kate smile looks different tonight and that’s because of the story I promised to tell her after dinner.
“Oh, what a girl”I said to myself as I smiled at her back.
“Eat your food” I added.
Kate nodded and took a spoon of mashed rice. As she was about to put it in her mouth, the rice dropped on her cloth-her bust area to be precise.
Kate was shocked, she looked at the cloth and then looked up with a sad face.
“I’m sorry” she said as she looked at me and her father.
“It’s okay but next time be careful” Nasir said as he played with her cheek and gave a smile.
I snapped at one servant to clean the mess and the one on Kate’s cloth too.
The servant did this immediately and used a clean napkin to clean the stain on Kate’s cloth even though it wasn’t completely clean but it’s better than leaving it alone.
We continued eating our meal, finished it and had our juice and water- Kate had more of that.
After eating, the servants cleared the table and we all head upstairs to go to sleep.
Nasir gave Kate a forehead kiss and said “Goodnight my little Angel”
“I’m taking Kate to her room” I said to Nasir and we kissed each other and headed to our different rooms.
Getting to Kate’s princess like room, I dropped her on the bed and stretched my hands as a result of the carriage of her I did from the dining hall.
“Damn, she’s got some weight” I thought to myself.
Without further Ado, I helped her change to her pink pyjamas with bunny design and a hood. She got this as a present from Axel on her fifth year birthday. I laid her on her bed but she sat down instead because of the story she wants to hear.
“So you ready for the story?” I asked her as I sat down on a chair next to her bed.
“Yes mother, I’m ready” she said happily.
“Well, here we go” I said as I start to narrate the story of my life, how I was stuck with a prince and became a Queen.
