CHAPTER 2 I WILL BE BY YOUR SIDE

1314 Words
Callista fell asleep shortly after her orgasm, her body completely floating and no longer aware of what she had done with this adult man. Unlike Evander, he sat on the edge of the bed, watching Callista's face. “She's still very young,” he muttered. “You said Lucas Evans was the one who abandoned you? Is this God's destiny bringing us together to avenge the same grievance?” Evander recalled the past, when he was devastated by the tragic death of his wife, then remarried and had to face the harsh reality that his new wife was cheating on him. Truly, those were memories he could never forget. Evander had given everything to that woman, but heartbreak was the reward for everything he had fought for in their marriage. The night grew darker, and Evander finally fell asleep beside Callista. But after only a few moments, whether in a dream or not, Callista suddenly cried out and said unconsciously, “You hurt me, Lucas. My heart hurts...” *** Callista woke up, her forehead wrinkled when she saw the room she was in, and she was even more surprised when she saw her body naked and covered only by a thick blanket up to her chest. “Oh my God, what happened!” Callista was confused, but the question was answered when she heard the sound of running water from the bathroom. Clothes were scattered on the floor, the smell of last night's alcohol still lingered slightly, and someone's watch and wallet were on the table. Callista closed her eyes for a moment, trying to remember what had happened last night. “Damn! I shouldn't have gotten drunk,” she grumbled. The bathroom door opened, and Callista was surprised to see a man coming out. A towel was wrapped around his waist, revealing his broad chest and abs with a hint of tempting body hair. Callista swallowed hard, estimating that the man was probably the same age as her father. “Who are you?” Callista asked softly. Evander smiled slightly. “I should be the one asking, who are you who dared to invite me to sleep with you?” “I invited you? That's impossible! You... you must be tricking me, right?” Callista accused. The man climbed onto the bed, crawling slowly and making Callista back away in fear. “No need to be shy, Miss. You were amazing last night.” Callista held her breath, wondering if she had really done something foolish by inviting this man, who was the same age as her father, to sleep with her. Evander pulled Callista's shoulders until they were facing each other. The tip of his thumb gently caressed Callista's cheek, then he said, “I don't regret doing it. I hope you don't either.” “Don't worry, Miss, you won't get pregnant just because we did it on purpose,” Evander said again, then kissed Callista's forehead gently. “I'll pay for your loss. I'm sorry my actions wasted your time,” said Callista. Evander didn't answer, just smiled smugly. He got out of bed, grabbed his clothes and put them on, then took his wallet, took out a business card and gave it to Callista. “This is my business card. If anything happens to you, then contact me,” said Evander. Callista took the card hesitantly. She was even more surprised when she found out who this man was. “Evander Whitmore? You... you own that hotel, right?” Evander smiled again. “Just by knowing my name, you can recognize me quickly.” “Wait, are you kidding? You must have tricked me. How could a millionaire like you come and sleep with a stranger in a small club like that?” said Callista incredulously. “Is something wrong, Miss? This club is mine,” said Evander, further surprising Callista. “Yours?” “I don't want to talk much. I only have one question. Last night, when we were making love, you kept cursing Lucas Evans.” Callista was silent, feeling even more embarrassed. “You said he was the man who dumped you. Here's the deal. Instead of paying me for the time I wasted last night, how about you come to Lucas's wedding with me?” Evander made an offer. “Did they invite you too?” Callista asked. “I mean, I didn't even know they had made wedding invitations and sent them out.” Evander laughed bitterly to himself, feeling even more sorry for Callista. “Of course they invited me; all the wealthy and famous will be at that party.” Callista looked down, once again staring at Evander’s business card. In her heart, she wondered, should she trust this man? “You don't have to give me an answer right now, Miss. You can contact me when you're ready,” said Evander, then grabbed his coat and walked towards the door. “My name is Callista,” said Callista before Evander left. “Callista Eva Turner. Thank you for not being angry with me, and thank you for offering to help me.” Evander paused for a moment, turning his head expressionlessly, then continued walking out of the room. Callista felt that this wasn't so bad. Slowly, she got up from the bed, feeling a little sad to see her body covered in red marks from Evander's kisses the night before. She still couldn't imagine how she could have had s*x with a man her father's age. After tidying herself up, she left the bar, and a man dressed formally approached her. “You're Callista, right?” he asked. “My name is Barry, I am the Whitmore family driver. Mr. Evander asked me to take you home,” he said, showing his employee ID card so Callista would believe him. Callista sighed, a little hesitant but also touched that Evander hadn't abandoned his responsibility. Without refusing, Callista got into the luxurious metallic black car. She sat quietly there, enjoying the comfort and the scent of lavender that filled the cabin. For a moment, her eyes closed, remembering some moments she had forgotten for a while. “You still loved me a few days ago,” she said to herself. Callista remembered how she met Lucas two years ago. It was the night when he was being chased by a group of strangers carrying sharp weapons. Callista had just returned from work, and when she saw what was happening, she spontaneously tried to help Lucas. Without thinking about the risks, Callista ended up getting stabbed in the back while protecting Lucas from the attack. Callista underwent surgery and regained consciousness three days later. Lucas didn't leave; his family, including Viviane, was there. Everyone who came considered Callista a hero who had saved the life of their beloved son. Lucas even considered Callista his second life; they were very grateful to know Callista and accepted her into the family unconditionally. However, everything changed in just one day. Viviane, whom Callista knew to be kind-hearted, turned out to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. Lucas, who had once been loyal, had been having an affair for a long time, which resulted in Issera becoming pregnant. Callista and Lucas's two-year romantic relationship was destroyed in one night, and next week Lucas would marry his mistress. “Miss, we're here,” said Barry. Callista's reverie vanished, and she was shocked when she peeked out the window. “My father's house?” she muttered. “Sir, why did you bring me here?” Callista asked. “My studio apartment is on Wellington Street.” “I'm sorry, Miss, I was just following Mr. Evander's orders.” Callista fell silent for a moment, confused and shocked. In her heart, she wondered, “Does Evander know me? How did he find out about my father’s house?”
