The sting on my cheek burned long after my father’s hand left my face.
For a moment, I could not even process what had happened. I simply stood there in silence, my head turned slightly to the side, my heartbeat pounding in my ears.
My father had slapped me....in front of everyone.
Humiliation burned through me so fiercely that it almost drowned out everything else.
Slowly, I turned back to look at him.
My father’s face was dark with fury. His chest rose and fell heavily as he glared at me like I was someone he no longer recognized.
