I woke sometime later to an empty room. I stayed still for a second, letting my ears catch the smallest sounds. I heard nothing but the sound of my breath and the thud of my heart that grew louder with the pass of every second. There was no sound in here, no person. I could not decide what went on outside with only the use of my ears so I threw my legs out of the bed and stood. I stood still again, trying but failing to calm the steady increase in my heart rate. Danger lay ahead and I had been asleep. I had slept while men got massacred, houses got burnt, children turned orphans. I had slept. My heart rate soared with rage this time. I wanted to smack some sense into Goldie. At a time like this, while men risked their lives, when all hands were needed on deck, she had put me to sleep!
