“Okay class, let’s start.” The class started early. The whole room was quiet as everyone listened to the teacher. Two hours passed quickly, and then we were given a break. Snack Time We glanced at each other for a moment before Axcel approached me. “Uhm… Jean, do you want to go to the canteen together?” I smiled. “Sure. Joy, are you coming?” “Yes,” Joy replied. The three of us went to the canteen together. It was a bit noisy, full of students, and the smell of food filled the air. “What do you want to eat, Jean?” Axcel asked. “Ah, anything. As long as it fills me up,” I answered. “Do you want a sandwich?” “Sure. How much is it?” “Don’t worry, it’s on me.” I laughed. “Really? Okay, your choice then.” Joy suddenly teased with a playful smile, “Ayeee, ate, it’s only your first day in class…” “Stop it,” I said, a little embarrassed. “By the way, let’s go back before we get scolded.” “Okay,” they both replied. We went back to the classroom and continued the lesson until the day ended. I was getting sleepy, but I tried to stay focused. “Okay class, goodbye and see you tomorrow.” “Bye, sir!” we all said together. I started packing my things because my sibling and I were about to go home. I didn’t expect what would happen next. Axcel walked up to me again. “Jean, where do you live?” “Ah, just nearby. Why?” “Nothing… I was just wondering if I could walk you home.” “No need, we can walk.” He paused for a moment, then spoke again. “By the way… I was hoping we could be friends. I hope you don’t take it the wrong way.” I smiled. “Sure. Why would I? We’re classmates. Starting today, we’re friends, okay?” “Okay,” he said, clearly happy. When we left the classroom, I didn’t expect it—but he actually walked me and my sibling home. “Hey, thanks for walking us home,” I said. “It’s nothing. Just call me ‘bro,’” he joked. “Alright, bro. Thanks. Take care on your way home.” “Okay, bye-bye.” We went inside the house. I immediately noticed Joy—she had this big smile on her face, like she was thinking something. “Ate… I think he likes you,” she said. “Joy, stop that. It’s only the first day, and already a crush?” I replied. “It’s obvious though, ate.” “Stop it. And fix that smile of yours—it’s so teasing!” “Okay, if you say so,” she laughed. I just shook my head. I don’t know why Joy thought that. Honestly, it never even crossed my mind. But maybe… this is just the beginning of something I don’t understand yet.
