Unknown's POV
I sipped the wine as I looked outside the balcony. The darkness of the night has completely covered the area. I wanted to use whatever is left of the light to call upon the witch fire just to get a glimpse of her but I am f*******n by what I vowed never to do.
She must never be dragged in into this kind of life. She will live free and well with those who can take care of her.
I sighed in resignation. This restriction has since prevented us from working outside the country as we are still in hibernation. We can never move without our supreme leader. She who has been blessed by Merlin himself.
She who must remain oblivious until the threat has been vanquished.
The door opened and one of my minions entered, bowing before addressing my back.
"My lady, something has happened."
I sighed deeply and inclined towards my attendant. He cowered further, trying to hide his eyes from me. He was trained not to show fear but he reeks of one although I would never harm him anyway. My aunt would have but I am not her.
"What is it?" I asked softly.
"Witches, my lady. One has harmed her."
My back straightened. Did he say someone had the audacity to harm her?

Leilani's POV
Of all the rotten luck.
I shook my head as Carol carried me towards a table near her desk. Lady Prudence has been chanting all over me since this morning that I couldn't understand heads or tails of what the heck she was trying to say. I would have loved to run away from everything, from being the musician everyone expects to be be and then carried over as another young child.
This sucks!
I had to find a comfortable spot on the high chair. I mean, I who was used to sitting on a normal brown chair with a brown desk was now forced to sit on a chair raised slightly from the table beside it with a desk covering half of my body to prevent me from falling off. And here's the kicker! There is even a built- in seatbelt on the damn thing. Yes folks! It's official! I am a FREAKING BABY!
I tried to keep a brave face as they were talking about what to do to me but I was really thinking how to get over to school and attend my first lesson with Mr. Latimer. After all, the freaking god was waiting for me to learn what piece I am going to use. But then again, I can't even walk within ten paces without Carol, Maxim or Jace suddenly picking up my hand or my whole body and settling me on a high chair or a nearby crib. I mean, what the heck! How can I get my bearings if they won't even let me take a few steps without cooing at me or going googly eyes at me.
Now, I understand that this is really happening to me. That I am now becoming a burden to these people.
My self pity party was disrupted when the door opened and Lady Prudence entered with a smile on her face. It looked like she have a positive feedback to report.
Carol and Maxim looked at her expectantly. The woman placed a tons of scrolls onto the desk and looked at the mates with an expectant grin.
"I think I may have the solution to finding our little girl's mate. But this would be tricky if not a little bit worrisome but if you are agreeable with the result, then we could use this method." She muttered excitedly. Sometimes, I think that she was just using me as a test subject for one of her spells. Before I could say something, Carol nodded her head in agreement with Prudence's proposal.
"In different Asian cultures, there is this thing called the red thread of destiny." Prudence began as she opened up scrolls that were written in ancient languages with symbols from Asian countries. Even in my childlike state, I can still decipher some as Chinese, Korean and Japanese.
"The red thread of destiny is a well-known culture as it is our equivalent of soulmates or destined betrothed. It is said that it can never be severed or broken no matter what the circumstances are. It was said that in Greek mythology, it is referred to as the thread of life that the three fates or the Moirai would weave in their looms. Clotho would spin the thread, Lachesis would weave it and Atropos would end it.
Now the red thread of destiny is supposed to tie a mortal to another through a specific part of their body. In Chinese culture, it was said to be tied around the ankles. In Japanese, it would be tied onto the male's thumb and female's little finger. In Korean, it is tied to both their little fingers. Soon, the myth became well-known for tying the red thread onto both parties little fingers, as it is the only finger connected to their hearts."
She pinned the mates with a look then waved her hand in the air. She chanted a few spells and soon, sparkling white dusts seemed to float in the air and settle between Carol and Maxim. Carol gasped as the white dusts connected in the air as if there was something thin was hanging in front of them. The sparkles turned darker until they shone bright red and materialized in front of her small finger, its ends tied up like little red bows. Maxim also gasped as he pulled up his hand and a similar bow was tied to his small finger. The thread seemed short but as Carol decided to stand, she pulled the thread away from Maxim, just to check if it really was connected to him. Maxim smiled as he made a slight tug of the same finger, making both mates chuckle in amazement and wonder.
I was fascinated. Since technically I am too young to find a werewolf, vampire, fae or demon mate, then this solution might be a better one to focus on. I mean I thought the red thread of destiny was a little old wives' tale and mostly depicted in horror films but I didn't know that they actually exist.
I turned my eyes at Lady Prudence and found new respect for her. If this would be successful, then I wouldn't be dead in a baby's body now wouldn't I. I would have thought she would be on her daughter's side, championing evil and all that but it seems I was wrong. She really looked like she was going to help me.
That was until I saw the slight malicious twitch on her lips. She quickly caught herself and resumed her delighted expression but my baby eyes were not fooled. She is just like her daughter it seemed. She must have something else planned for this so-called solution.
Suddenly, I became fearful of what this red thread could do to my friend. I mean, Lady Prudence did say that it would lead me to my destined soulmate but then again what was she planning to do. What does she know about this red thread and why did she looked so smug to my oblivious friends.
