MAEL
The gunshots echoed throughout the entire level of the Monolith's penultimate floor.
It was a simple matter to reach this floor with everyone having been evacuated from the building after the explosion in the lobby. Fire crews and police were moving throughout the lower levels of the building and remained unaware of the drama taking place high above them.
The service elevator took them to a few floors shy of the top, so they completed the rest of the journey on foot. Dan wanted to avoid using the main elevators in case Malcolm had another monster waiting in a den somewhere.
When he heard one gunshot, followed by several others in rapid succession, Dan's resolve to remain calm shattered and he was running before he realized he was moving.
"Dan!" Aeron shouted after him.
