Nyx The Demon of Sloth

1322 Words
The boat landed just north of its target area, it wasn't an ideal location, but at least the merfolk stayed south. Lush, thick forests coated the landscape, few travelled this way, and the lack of well-paved roads proved it. The weary travelers stepped off their small rowboat that had detached itself from the main vessel just a few yards away from shore. The first to step foot on land was a young demon, aged closer to the age of Juliet, Lucifer's last wife. Being that young had a few downsides, for one he had to take care of the older well-aged ruler that accompanied him. On the other hand, he didn't need to fight, so the demon was less likely to cause a fuss over the situation.  "Dinar pull the boat closer." The exhaustion wept from the mouth of the older demon as they struggled to remain steady.  "Yes miss." it took a lot out of him to continue to be around this demon. The aura she expressed was beyond compare, and being a lowly greed demon was certainly not helping.  "Well, isn't this just perfect." she huffed again, "So I guess I'll be walking from here. Keep the boat safe, don't go anywhere I want to leave as soon so I can." *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "My oldest sister, Nyx, she's landed just north. It'll take her some time to get here, she's not the fastest at moving." Aidan continued to pull relentlessly on Nadia's arm as she spun her through the buildings getting closer to the others. "I don't know if she's here for you, me, or something else. So we need to expect all three, and if we are lucky enough she'll be her typical self and you guys won't have to leave for long." "Wait, Aidan, who is Nyx?" Nadia tried to stop him from moving but the strength and determination powered his movements, "What's going on?" "Aidan!" Sera beamed but her smile quickly faded when she saw his expression, "What's wrong?" Finally letting go of Nadia Aidan came to a stop feet away from the rest of the group who looked unsuccessful in their hunting trip, "You didn't find anything right?" Sera shook her head turning to the others. The tension was rising again as Aidan tried to control the bursting feelings of resentment being tossed his way. "What brought you here?" Ma'at was far less impressed with the visit as well as the company Nadia was keeping with the stranger. "Di, I thought you were going to stay around here today?" Not wanting to leave Aidan alone on his side of the field, Nadia refused to join the others, "I was, but then I figured, you guys left, I should too. Besides, Aidan showed me a mermaid, and I think I figured out what I needed to." she turned back to Aidan and smiled. "You took her to see the mermaids?" Sera narrowed her eyes and clenched her teeth, "What made you do something so stupid?" "If you could focus on what I said before," Aidan threw up his hands and started to pace back and forth, the feelings were getting a bit more hostile, but if he could hold off on the release for just a few more moments they would subside. "You didn't find anything right? There's a reason. Someone altered the emotions of the woods. Outside the wall, didn't you feel it?" Sera thought back to their trip, she didn't feel different, but the auras affected the lower life forms first, maybe the culprit was farther away, "What demon comes here?" "Nyx," Sighing and finally feeling a slight break in the anger, Aidan collapsed to the ground placing his head in his hands, "It could have been worse, but maybe I can get her to leave quickly." "Nyx?" Odion and Ma'at questioned in unison only Odion continued, "Who is Nyx?" Sera knelt by Aidan placing a concerning hand on his head in a desperate attempt to create a barrier for him to feel slightly more at ease, "Nyx, the ruler of the night, the reason people get no work done. She's Aidan's oldest sister. Lucifer's firstborn," She turned back to the others, "We got very lucky, Aidan you need to go back to your place, we'll stay here until you come and get us." "Wait!" Ma'at protested, "If this is a demon we need to fight, or at least come up with a plan to get away from it." Aidan turned his head up and laughed weakly, "You don't get it, if you step outside the walls her aura will get you. She's the first born demon, if you don't understand what that means Medjay then you are hilariously unprepared." Knocking Sera's hand out of the way Aidan climbed to his feet gaining ground on Ma'at, "Nyx once held an entire army hostage for fifty years. She did nothing other than cast her aura and they were so lazy they wouldn't move to do anything but eat. My father hates her so much he exiled her to a little island for fifty years just so he didn't have to see her refuse to do anything. She plays by her won rules, and if you thought I was hot-headed, just wait until you meet the ice queen." "For you information Aidan," Ma'at retorted, "I already know plenty about her, I also know that she doesn't fight, so if we fight her right now in this city we can take her out. You said her aura can't get us so let's get her." Pushing Aidan back away from Ma'at face Sera squeezed into the fight, "Listen, we can't fight her because while she may not fight for no reason, she is still insanely powerful, and it should speak volumes to her if I am saying not to fight." Turning back to Aidan she pushed him farther back, "Besides, I warned you about starting fights in this town." Ma'at now absorbed Sera's attention as her eyes focused, "If we fight, Aidan will kill as many people as he can get his hands on before I can stop him, and last I checked his future was more important than yours or Odion's," she turned to Nadia softening her eyes, "Maybe not Nadia's," then turning back her face hardened, "Do you really want to test me Ma'at?" Maat shook her head, "Fine, but this better not take too long. I can't stand to be kept indoors." Aidan looked around as the sky continued to glow with the sun a small nip in the air descended and the breeze was getting stronger, "She's almost here, I need to get going. I'll come to get you when she leaves. I promise I'll try to speed her along," shrugging he felt how silly of a statement that was, "I'll do my best, she is the sloth demon." ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ The town was more run down than Nyx was used to, she expected to see warriors, street fighting, and the usual ruckus that came with a wrath demon's territory. This was just a deserted wasteland. Still, she used up most of her energy getting here as quickly as possible, maybe her dear brother would have a surprise for her. Certainly, he knew she was here, it wasn't her fault that the air changed when she entered a walled city.  Winding through the streets her feet took her where she needed to be and not a step farther, this was just a social visit after all. Coming to a large white bricked building with a semi-circle driveway leading up to the large doors on either side were bowls of fire raging even as Nyx grew closer. She raised on hand knocking three times.  The one to answer the door though was something she was less enthused to see. "Davene? Where's Aidan?" Nyx looked past the child expecting to be surprised by an unwelcomed hug, but nothing happened.
