Paul and Serena could have made very quick progress, by running at their maximum velocity but that would have brought its own risks of discovery with it. Instead, Paul let Serena take the lead.
A lot of things had changed whilst Paul had been away, not least of all public transport. A national inter-city Hyperloop network was being created, giving employment to thousands of human workers, and the stage between New Met City and New London – a distance of just under 2,400 km – had recently been opened to the public. The journey would take just under two hours, much quicker than the forty hours that the two sophonts would require if they travelled on foot, even if they ran all the way non-stop.
