“Why do you feel I would accept your crazy offer? It's obvious that you're out of your mind, and it's not even a joke,” Dominic turned down Karen's proposal without even thinking about it.
Without speaking further, he dashed out of the living room and went straight to where his car was parked.
As he was about to leave, a thought crossed his mind, forcing him to stop. He saw the butler taking a stroll and stopped him immediately.
“I want you to go purchase some expensive outfits for my wife before the end of today. Call me to cover the cost when you arrive at the fashion store. Is that clear?” He instructed the butler.
“Yes, boss,” the butler nodded while honoring Dominic’s order.
He knows the implication of disobeying Dominic's instructions.
“And one last thing before I forget,” Dominic snapped again as he stopped the butler from leaving. “Ensure she doesn't set a foot outside this mansion. If she needs anything, you can get it for her,”
He ensures that no stone is left unturned. He already knows what Karen is capable of doing if she had the slightest opportunity.
“Noted, boss.” The butler answered with a bow.
Until Dominic drove outside the mansion, the butler didn't stop waving at him.
Karen folded herself onto the sofa, feeling this imaginary, and processing what had been happening around her lately. She is starting to regret ever marrying
Dominic.
In all of this, she blamed her family for the lack of support.
She wished they had listened to her when she kicked against the arranged marriage to Dominic.
To worsen it, her parents haven't called to inquire about her well-being.
“Are they really my biological parents?” That has been Karen's most-used word in recent times.
She can't understand the sudden hatred she's getting from people who are supposed to be her guardian and protector.
Engrossed in her thought, Karen heard a ferocious voice that nearly ripped her heart apart. “Karen, are you okay?”
“I need your help,” Karen spoke out of fear.
She is losing her mind and feels the butler is the best person to save her right now.
“You need my help?” The butler echoed and pointed to his chest in disbelief. He looked behind him to be certain she was referring to him
“I need to reach out to my family right now. Any idea where Domini is hiding my phone?” Karen asks as though her life depends on it.
Deep down, she knew she just sounded like a broken record. At the same time, she's hoping to get lucky with the butler.
“Yes, I do,” the butler responded. That sounded like a giant relief for Karen until the butler broke her heart by saying, “But Mister Domini instructed me not to let you have the phone,”
Karen was speechless. She wasn't expecting the sudden switch from butler. She has suddenly forgotten what it takes to convince the butler.
The butler stormed out of the room without minding Karen's tears. None of that meant anything to her.
“I'm screwed!” Karen wept.
She threw the pillow on the ground out of frustration and cried.
When she thought all hope was lost, the butler returned with a giant surprise for Karen.
“Here's your phone,” he handed over the phone to Karen when she least expected it. She stood there glaring at him like a clown.
“I don't even know what to say,” she wiped her tears and retrieved the phone from him.
She wished Dominic would emulate the butler's good deeds.
“One more request, please,” Karen winked at the butler as she prepared to seek her final favour from the butler.
“Do you mind if I stop by at my parents' house to get some of my stuff? I never had the opportunity to get them before I married Dominic,” Karen begged.
She never imagined a day like this would emerge, where she'd be dependent on the butler to experience a little freedom.
“Fine,” the butler sighed. “You can go. But please, don't stay too long outside.”
“My boss will be mad at me if you fail to return home on time,” he pleaded with Karen.
He's taking a giant risk by helping Karen. He wouldn't want a situation where he'd end up regretting his actions afterward.
Karen was so excited. She wasn't aware when she embraced him firmly without letting go.
She had to pull herself away from his grip after realizing that she may have overstepped her boundaries.
“Here is the key to the ash-coloured jeep parked outside.” The butler slipped a bunch of keys into Karen's palms.
It took a while before she could accept the keys. It still feels like a dream to her. Dominic had never allowed her to go out with any of the cars since they got married.
“You'd crash it,” That has always been Dominic's excuse
“Trust me, you won't regret doing this giant favour for me,” Karen assured the butler.
She dashed outside and drove off without delay. A moment after Karen's departure, the butler brought out his phone
“Boss, your wife just stepped outside using one of the cars. She is heading to her parents' house as we speak," the butler disclosed.
He figured that it was right for him to tell Dominic about it to avoid getting into trouble in the future.
Dominic's voice deepens, “What did you just say? Are you playing pranks on me?”
He switched the phone to the right side of his ear to hear the butler clearly. The phone has suddenly become too heavy for him to handle.
“This is no prank. That's what she told me, boss,” the butler repeated his words, but this time, in a shaky voice.
He's starting to sense trouble hovering around him. He only wanted to help a sad and depressed wife.
He never knew his good deed was about to lead him to his doom!
“She lied to you! She's not seeing her parents. She is probably visiting her ex-boyfriend right now!” Dominic spoke with the loudest voice that he nearly damaged the butlers' eardrums.
