Chapter 6- Contract before marriage

1660 Words
Daniel Stuart Cooper “So you want a contract marriage” I asked “Yes” she didn't hesitate. “Okay, then what are you conditions?” I looked her questioningly. “OK I will tell you my conditions one by one. If you can't agree with at least one of the conditions then forget about the marriage.” She said. “Then go on” I told her to continue. “My first condition is I will not stop working after marriage. I will continue my career.” She looked at me anxiously. “I agree. What is your next condition?” I asked her. “My second condition is that I will not cut my relation with my family. I will visit them whenever I wish to.” I nodded and signalled her to continue. “I will not give away my freedom. I will go wherever I want and you will not stop me.” I smiled and thought about how her life is going to change. Again I nodded and she continued. “You will not force yourself on me without my consent. You will not repeat what happened in the elevator” the scene in the elevator flashed through my mind and I had an urge to kiss her again. I suppressed my feelings and told her to continue. “I will not be ready to conceive at least for two years. I want to specialize in cardiology before I take any such responsibilities.” Thank God, she at least was ready to have a relation. I thought of my mother who probably will cut this girl into two hearing her words. I felt bad for the girl sitting beside me. Poor girl she doesn’t know the tradition of Cooper family. After marriage her first assignment will be to get pregnant. How on earth she is going to face that. I don't want to keep her in darkness but I can't take the risk of losing her. I shrugged and covered my thoughts and told her to continue. “Well that's all for now. If there are any further conditions I will let you know. I will make the contract ready by Sunday. And we can register our marriage on Monday. Will that be fine for you?” She finished and looked at me. What’s the feeling in her eyes, is it hatred or anxiety? Just can’t differentiate. Does she hate me? Even if it’s yes, I still want her. I can’t take any chance of losing her. “Yeah, absolutely fine and I have no objection. But you have to promise me one thing. None of my family members would ever know about the contract. You can assign someone from your family to make the contract. I will inform the place to meet up and sign the contract probably one day before the marriage registration.” I said. I had chosen to drive myself and send the driver back only to spend time with this girl. But she is not at all interested in me. She instead is interested in signing a contract. Oh God I want to know this girl and she is just in her own world. By the time she concluded her conditions we already had reached her home. She didn’t even ask me how I know her home. I didn’t ask her the directions as I did collect the address from Harold so as I could come this way to meet her some day. But she is not at all interested in me. She is just thinking about herself. “OK then bye. See you on Sunday” Without even waiting for my reply she opened the door and walked towards her apartment. She didn’t get into the elevator but instead took steps. So she is now frightened about elevator because of our encounter. She neither turned back nor waved goodbye. I had an evil smile on my lips because this girl doesn't know she is going to give herself away to me. Hazel Maria Mathews I had stated all my conditions and to my surprise Mr Cooper agreed to all my conditions without any hesitation. Also he had given me the right to prepare the contract myself. I thought I should think about other conditions to be added in the contract. I took the steps instead of elevator. I am just scared of the elevators after the encounter with Daniel Cooper. I have been in my own thoughts and didn't really notice that I have reached my apartment. I felt happy as I am not giving away myself for my family. I don't have to feel bad. I don't have to change or end my career. Now I could think about the life after marriage not feeling sad but feeling happy. I will be happy for my marriage. I entered the house with a smile. Seeing me happy my mom came to me smiling and hugged me. “Oh Jesus, finally you are happy. Believe me dear, you will never get a better person than Daniel. He likes you.” My mom said happily and took me inside. I said to myself that I am happy. I am securing myself with the contract. My father was home early and he was smiling at me. I have never seen him so happy. “I have seen your father this happy before when you three were born. After that I am seeing him this happy now. Funny you are the one who have given this happiness to us.” My mom exclaimed. “Ria, my dear baby you have given me the greatest happiness of my life. I have strived throughout my life to earn a good name. But never have I received such respect from the people before. News of you getting married into the Cooper family has changed our lives. I was honoured by my boss and my colleagues today. I have been working as a mere accountant for the past 20 years. Even though I have given my full dedication I never got the recognition. But today I have been promoted as the general manager of the operations department. Thank you my dear.” Tears were visible in my father's eyes. I never saw him crying but I know these tears are of happiness. I hugged him and he kissed me on my forehead. I want to tell him not to give me all the credit so I said “Congrats dad it's your hard work which has been paid off and not because of me. Don't thank me dad.” “The company has given your father a new car and we are moving to our new home next week.” Mom said happily “New home? Is dad’s company giving him a new house” I inquired in surprise “No dear, the new house is a gift from your in laws. They want us to live in a house which is up to their standards and status. Look they delivered the documents and keys of our new home just after you left for the press conference.” Mom cleared my doubt. I stood shocked by her words. How could Cooper family disgrace my family by giving us a house of their so called standards? They are considering me and my family as low standard creatures. “Harold, the secretary of Mrs Cooper told that our new home is in the heart of Manchester City. It is one of the luxurious apartments in Western Hill Avenue. It's the most luxurious apartment of Manchester City. I and your father are going to visit the apartment tomorrow. It's already furnished but we should know what we have to take from here. Tessa is really excited. She would be moving with us after your marriage as there will be a lot of space.” My mom just seemed to be over excited about her new home. I thought about telling them about the contract. Then I decided not to tell them. They will not allow me to do such thing and insult the Cooper family in their point of view. I got to my room and started thinking about the contract to be made. Who could I trust without my parent’s knowledge? Tessa was my first choice but dropped her as I thought she will tell mom. Robin was my next choice. After thinking and analyzing everything I decided to talk to Robin about the contract. I should make him swear that he will never tell mom and dad. Robin and Tessa came in the evening. Both of them were happy. Their lives have also changed with the announcement of my marriage with Daniel Cooper on the media. “Ria, Kevin proposed me.” Tessa took me into a tight hug and said. I just felt happy for her. She has been waiting for this for so long. “Kevin’s family have accepted her all because of you dear.” Mom was very happy. “We are going to register our marriage tomorrow.” Tessa said excited. “What? Why so soon” I asked “Yeah mum and dad want me to get married before you. So we decided to do it tomorrow and a small wedding will be held after 2 weeks. Only our two families will be there. Kevin's family wants it early so that they could also attend the royal wedding of the Daniel Cooper as your relatives. His family is really excited with the marriage. Kevin told me that his family business will be in benefit if they are associated with the Cooper's." Tessa finished in excitement. I just can't believe that Kevin's family who always disliked Tessa has accepted her just to be associated with the Cooper family. Money can do wonders. There is no value for feelings or love. I grabbed Robin and went to my room. I locked the door after we both entered. I told him about my decision to marry Daniel Cooper only after signing the contract. I explained about the contract and gave him the paper in which I had already written my conditions. Robin took the paper and read through it and then folded it and kept it in his pocket. He then told that Daniel had already called him and told about our talk. “You should make a draft and show it before Saturday. I am trusting you with my life.” I reminded him.
