Sophie
After the door shut, I looked over at Jen. “ I need to talk to Sam. That was not the reaction of a she-wolf. There is something very wrong with their situation. No wolf can fear a pack and a mate without some serious reasons. “ We start walking back to the pack house and I rack my brains to come up with options for us to take next.
“But Soph, the boys told us that one of the reasons they agreed to stay was that we won’t look into their past. If she finds out, they could leave. How would Henry handle that?”
“Jen, I don’t know. It would break his heart, but if we don’t find out.... He won’t have a chance with her anyway.”
“Didn’t you have a talk with the quiet one.... Rose? “
I nod and reflect on the conversation we had. Well, I say that, but it was mostly me talking. She was more like a scared little bunny than a wolf. “I’m going to give Carla a call. I’ll get her to give a shift to Raya only so Rose will be here alone. Maybe I can get some information out of her. “
“Just remember to be careful. That girl is very protective of that little one.” I nod as we finally reach the pack house. I go off to make the phone call and set my plans in motion.
Rose
Raya has been at work for not even an hour when someone knocks on the door. It’s not till the fifth time that I unfreeze and make my way over. I open it a crack and see that Sophie lady standing there. She was nice to me before, but she is very chatty. I just stare at her through the small opening.
“Hi. I thought we could have a little chat. Can I come in.”
I slowly open the door and am unable to hide my obvious discomfort at her intrusion. As she comes in and looks around “Well haven’t you spruced up the place. It looks lovely.” I give her a shy smile. Raya and decorated with a few bits and bobs along with our few family photos. Pics of me and my mum, me and Raya, Raya's family. Most are us as children, there are only 3 of us older. “I made some cookies yesterday, would you like some? And maybe a drink?”
We move into the kitchen and I make her a tea and put some biscuits on a small plate. We then sit down on opposite sides of the dining table. She makes mild conversation and I just smile and nod. After half an hour, I can tell she is finally ready to get to the point of her visit.
“Raya is my son's mate.” My eyes widen in shock. “So, she didn’t tell you. Well, she wants to reject him. So I am asking if you know why?”
Oh Raya. My heart breaks as I realise that she is willing to give up even her mate for me. I don’t w to be some ball and chain, dragging her down. I straighten my back and take a deep breath. “If I tell you, how do I know you will let us stay? I know you all know we are running. But once I tell you why and from who, if they show up..... you will try to give us back to them.”
“oh sweetie no. No matter what you say, we will figure it out.” She leans over and tries to hold my hands. I slide them back and place them on my lap under the table.
There is silence for a few minutes while I gather my courage. I have never put it all in words before. Never said it out loud. Once I do.....
Tears shimmer in my eyes as I look up at her. “We aren't sister’s. We are best friends. It all started when we were 10. There was an attack on our pack and Raya’s parents and brother were killed. My mother was also killed. Things changed for us after that. My father..... My father became someone I didn’t recognise. He was cruel. He drank almost constantly. He would..... He would beat me and say things that...... I also had an uncle that was.... He liked to..... Things were not good for me. Raya was just ignored. She had to raise herself. Our Alpha deemed her to be of little value so they left her to her own devices. We only had eachother. When my 16th birthday happened. I found my mate. I was so happy! His name was Peter and he was the son of the Alpha. He was so sweet to me that day. I thought.... I thought things would be different then. But after that...... “ tears fall down my cheek and I wipe them away with the back of my hand. “My father and uncle were home. Dad was drunk and was having me get some extra beers from the car port for him. My uncle followed and he..... He........ He grabbed me and forced himself on me. I screamed for help and tried to fight him off. But he was so much bigger than me. I couldn’t escape. Raya heard my cry. She saved me. The next day, we went to school. I wanted to see my mate. He would help me. I thought he would help me. ... But he.... He rejected me. Said horrible things. Called me all kinds of names. Later, he had s*x with another girl. I could feel it. I knew that how he knew something happened with me. But I thought he would listen to me. Believe me. Save me. Nobody did. Nobody but Raya. She took me away from there. We left the pack and have been on the move ever since. It’s been almost 2 years now. They haven’t f us yet. I don’t even know if they are looking. We can’t g back. Please don’t me us.” I look at her with a frantic gleam in my eyes. A stink of desperation leaks from my pores. Tears are streaming down her face and she quietly tells me that the pack will make sure they give us space and won’t tell anyone if someone asks about us. She then excuses herself and leaves, shutting the door behind her. I move to the couch and sit down. It bring my knees up and hold them tight. I stay there until Raya comes home. Finding me huddled with red eyes and dried tear stains on my cheeks.
Raya
“Rose!” I sit next to her, pulling her into my arms and stroking her hair. I gently rock her back and forth and try to figure out what happened. “Sophie can over for a talk.” I still and feel my eyes flash and a growl escapes from my lips. “She was fine. She just, want to talk. Raya, why didn’t you tell me you found your mate?” I freeze and my rage disappears. “Because it doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s just a word.”
“I told her everything.”
My mind goes blank and my hands stop moving. I let Rose go and stand up. “How could you? If you want to talk about what happened to you, that’s one thing. But what gives you the right to tell anybody about my past?! “ A lone tear slides down my cheek and I run to my bedroom, slamming the door behind me.
Sam
Sophie, Jen, Kyle and Henry are in my office with me in a state of shock after listening to what my mate has just told us. “Those poor girls, no wonder they are so skittish.” Jen says as Kyle pulls her into his arms, rubbing circles on her back to try to comfort her. I can’t stop frowning as I realise this a much bigger problem than I had anticipated. As long as their pack doesn’t come looking for them, it’s fine. But if they do.... My pack’s safety will be my top priority. I sigh as I realise I might not be able to keep my promise.
