CHAPTER 12

BLOODLINES AND BETRAYALS

As we walked into the hallway, Kael emerged from the shadows, his eyes narrowing as he took In the scene.

"well, well, well. Look at the slave on her leash", he sneered, his gaze raking over me.

Lord Lucien's expression remained calm, but I sensed a tension in his body. Kael's eyes flickered to him, and he sneered again.

"I see you're still slumming it with the help, Lucien".

Lord Lucien's gaze turned icy, his eyes blazing with anger. But he didn't move, didn't react. Instead he watched Kael with a cold intensity.

Kael emboldened by Lord Lucien's silence, took a step closer.

"you think you're above everyone else, don't you, Lucien?. But you're just a puppet dancing for my father's amusement"

That was when Lord Lucien moved with a swift, precise motion, he struck Kael across the face, sending him crashing to the floor. The sound of flesh hitting flesh echoed through the hallway, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.

Kael scrambled to his feet, his face twisted In rage and humiliation. But he knew better than to challenge Lord Lucien again. For a moment they locked eyes, and I saw the fear creeped into Kael's gaze.

Lord Lucien's voice was low and deadly

"don't ever speak to her like that again"

This time Kael's words were laced with venom. "you'll never be worthy of your parents throne Lucien. They weak and you're even weaker. Your mother was a fool for thinking she could rule, and your father was a coward for not protecting her"

This time Lord Lucien's expression turned glacial. He strode forward giving Kael another blow. Kael's head snapped back and blood spilled from his lip. He struggled to his feet, trying to maintain a brave face despite the fear creeping into his eyes.

"I'll tell my father about this", Kael spat, trying to salvage what was left of his dignity. "you'll be stripped of your position as Head of Security, and you will rot in the dungeons for your Insolence".

Lord Lucien's gaze was cold and unyielding,

"you really think your so-called father can touch me Kael?, I've been playing a game you didn't even know exists. You're just a pawn and soon, you'll find yourself on the board at my mercy"
