Chapter One HALLIE Five rhythmic raps sound on my apartment door. The knock tells me all I need to know so I don’t bother going to see who’s there. Dropping my towel, I pull on boy short panties, yoga pants and a tank top, sans bra. After a long day, I’m all about being comfortable. Grabbing an elastic band off the counter, I finger comb my hair and pull it into a messy ponytail. I hear the door open and close, followed by the clatter of keys on the kitchen counter and rustling through cabinets. Turning off the bathroom light, I head into the tiny combination living room/kitchen and plop down on the couch, put my feet up on the battered coffee table, pick up the remote and cue up the next Game of Thrones episode. “Bum bum bah dah bum bum bah dah bum bum bah dah dah.” The humming starts
