THE WHISPER OF DESTINY

923 Words
Three months. Three beautiful months had passed since Octavia and Aurora returned to their hometown. Summer slowly gave way to autumn. The green hills became painted with shades of gold and amber. Every morning, Octavia helped her mother in the flower garden before walking into town with Aurora. The villagers adored them. Children ran after them through the streets. Old women smiled warmly whenever they passed. Life was peaceful. Yet... Every single night... Octavia looked toward the stars. Somewhere beyond the mountains... Beyond forests and rivers... Beyond the six kingdoms... She knew someone was looking at the same moon. And somehow... That thought always made her smile. --- Far away... Within the magnificent Nightfall Palace... Lincoln stood on the highest balcony. Three months had passed. Yet nothing had changed. The silver rose pin still rested inside his coat pocket. Almost every evening... He found himself wondering... "Is she happy?" "Has she forgotten me?" Princess Arina often caught him staring toward the horizon. She never teased him anymore. Instead... She simply smiled. Because she knew exactly who occupied her brother's heart. --- The holiday was almost over. Only a few days remained before students would return to Eldoria Royal University. That evening... The Ashford family gathered around the fireplace. Stories filled the room. Laughter echoed through the house. Outside... Rain gently tapped against the windows. When the night grew late... Octavia kissed her parents goodnight before climbing the stairs to her room. She stood by the window. The moon was unusually bright. A strange breeze drifted through the open window. It carried the scent of roses... And something else. Something ancient. She frowned. "...Why does this feel familiar?" She climbed into bed. Within minutes... Sleep claimed her. --- Darkness. Silence. Then... A single heartbeat. Thump... Thump... Thump... Octavia slowly opened her eyes. She was standing inside an endless field of silver flowers. Thousands of glowing petals danced beneath the moonlight. The air shimmered like tiny stars had fallen from the heavens. Ahead... A narrow stone path stretched toward an ancient castle floating above the clouds. It was more magnificent than anything she had ever imagined. Its towers touched the sky. Silver waterfalls poured from impossible heights. Moonlight wrapped around the palace like silk. She had never seen such breathtaking beauty. Yet somehow... It felt familiar. A voice whispered softly behind her. "You're here again..." She turned. The mysterious man stood beneath a blooming white tree. His black coat swayed gently in the wind. His face remained hidden beneath the shadows. But tonight... She noticed something new. Around his neck... Hung the sapphire necklace she had seen many times before. His fingers rested gently upon it. As though it were the most precious thing in existence. He looked at her. Even without seeing his eyes... She could feel his warmth. His concern. His longing. Without saying a word... He stretched out his hand. This time... Octavia didn't hesitate. She slowly reached toward him. Their fingertips were only inches apart. Then... The wind stopped. The flowers froze. The moonlight disappeared. The man's head snapped toward the forest. His entire posture changed. He had sensed something. A deep growl echoed through the darkness. One. Then another. Then dozens. The forest surrounding the silver field began trembling. Pairs of crimson eyes slowly appeared between the trees. Then glowing golden eyes. Then violet eyes burning with magic. Vampires. Werewolves. Witches. Hundreds of them. Watching. Waiting. A cold voice echoed through the darkness. "So..." "We've finally found her." The mysterious man immediately stepped in front of Octavia. Shielding her with his body. "Stay behind me." His voice was calm. Yet filled with absolute authority. The creatures hesitated. None of them dared move. A tall vampire stepped forward. His eyes narrowed. "You cannot protect her forever." The mysterious man remained silent. Another witch laughed softly. "The prophecy has already begun." A massive werewolf snarled. "Hand her over." Silence. Then... The mysterious man slowly lifted his head. Although his face remained hidden... Something terrifying filled the air. The ground began shaking. The wind roared. The silver flowers bent toward him. Even the moonlight seemed to dim. One by one... The vampires lowered their heads. The witches took several nervous steps backward. Even the enormous werewolves stopped growling. Fear. Pure fear. The tall vampire whispered hoarsely, "...Retreat." The witch stared at him in disbelief. "Retreat?" The vampire's voice trembled. "...Do you not feel it?" "...He's here." Without another word... Every creature disappeared into the darkness. Within seconds... The entire field became silent once more. Octavia slowly stepped beside the mysterious man. "They were afraid of you..." He didn't answer. Instead... He gently turned toward her. For the first time... The darkness covering his face began to fade. She could almost see him. His jaw... His lips... The outline of his nose... Just a little more... She reached toward him. "Who are you?" He smiled sadly. Then whispered, "When the time is right..." "You'll know my name." A brilliant white light exploded between them. --- Octavia gasped awake. Her breathing was uneven. Moonlight poured through her bedroom window. She placed a trembling hand over her chest. Her heart refused to slow down. Tears shimmered in her emerald eyes. She didn't know why. But for the first time... The mysterious man no longer felt like a stranger. He felt... Like home. Outside... A cool breeze carried the scent of roses through the night. Somewhere, far beyond the mountains... A young prince looked up at the same moon... Unaware that destiny had just taken another step.
