Everyone was happy, but she couldn't bring herself to be happy when her family was broken beyond repair.
She only managed to put on a smile to impress everyone and when the party came to an end she sighed with relief.
She was already tired of faking a smile and couldn't do it a minute longer.
"Are you sleeping over?" She asked Juliet after everyone had left and she had shown her family where to sleep.
"No, I didn't inform my fiancee that I won't be sleeping home," Juliet answered.
"It's late, you can call him, if he wants he can come and pick you up," Amy suggested.
"Thank you and good night, we'll meet on Monday," Juliet picked her handbag.
"I'll show you out, you say as if Monday is far, it's only one day from now," Amy told her.
"When I invited Zadok, I never thought he would come but surprisingly I saw him, did you see him?" Juliet asked.
"I never expected him so, I wasn't looking for him, I didn't see him," Amy responded.
"He sat alone at the far end,"
"I won't be surprised if I find out that he came to spy," Amy commented, and Juliet chuckled.
"Someone once told me that there is a thin line between love and hate," Juliet said and opened the door of her.
"This old thing isn't your car, what happened to your car?" Amy asked staring at the car before her.
Three weeks ago, Juliet got herself, Porsche, that she saved for a year to buy, and now, she has a small, old car.
The Juliet she knows won't trade that car for anything in this world and the way she loved it, it can't be damaged because she took care of it, like an egg.
"This is my fiancee's car. We exchanged,"
"Why?" Amy asked.
When she looked through the window earlier and spotted the car, she didn't by any chance think that it could be her. When Julie walked to it she thought that maybe her car had an issue and she had to use her mechanic's car because it looked similar to that one.
"Because he is the man and the head, he deserves it," since she was born that was the craziest thing she has heard.
She couldn't help but laugh.
"Does it occur to you that it was a whole year's savings or more you used to purchase the car because you emptied your account?"
"I want this marriage to work and stay in a peaceful environment and if exchanging the cars will bring peace, I will gladly do it over and over again," Juliet answered.
"Your case is above me, when is the wedding?"
"In court on Monday morning,"
"All the best but he may not be meant for you and marriage can't be forced. Have a good sleep,"
"You too," they bid goodbye and Juliet left.
Amy went back inside and changed into a simple thing then went to her son's room.
God knows how much she had missed him and the moments they spent together. She missed reading him stories every night before he went to bed but they are only memories, he was all grown and hated her or so she thought.
Austin would be turning seventeen in two months and she hoped by then, they would be on good terms with him. That way she would be able to through a grant birthday party for him.
With tears in her eyes, she walked closer to and sat on the bed beside him.
"I love you son, no matter what, I'll protect you and take care of you," she promised.
She was about to leave the room when Austin opened her eyes.
"Mom," he called out and she broke down.
It has been six years since she heard him call her mom and it meant a lot to her.
The name sounded good and melted her heart.
"Son I'm sorry," she apologized.
She had to make good use of this opportunity to talk to her son, hoping that he may understand.
"Do you love me?" Austin asked.
"With all my heart," she replied with a smile.
"Then can we go back to being a family?" Austin asked and her heart dropped.
"It's hard son, your dad is married. I can't break his marriage and I'm sure, he doesn't love me anymore," she replied.
"He still loves us, he wants us back together, as one happy family," he answered back.
"I'm sorry for not giving you a complete family as you wanted but some things in life can't be controlled," she tried explaining but he turned and backed her.
"Son, there are things you can't understand yet,"
"Why? Because you think I'm still a baby? You asked for a divorce, why don't you bring together the family you broke?" Austin asked.
"I didn't just wake up and ask for a divorce, It has been seven years, you should move on,"
"Leave," he ordered.
"Can you please listen to me? We should agree. I miss you," she pleaded.
"If you missed me, we would be a family by now. You leave or I leave to go and sleep with granny," he threatened.
Going to sleep with her mom would add fuel to an already burning fire and that was the last thing she wanted today.
"When you are ready to put your life together, give me a call," Rita's words were still fresh in his mind.
She needed her life back together, she needed her son close to her and her mom as well.
"All you want is a complete family?" She asked in a low voice and Austin sat up immediately.
"Yes mom, is that too much to ask from my mom who claims to love me?" Austin asked back.
"Then a complete family you'll get," she promised.
This is the hardest decision she has ever made all her life but she had to do this because of the love she had for her mom and son.
"Thank you so much mom," Austin smiled and hugged her.
For the first time in years, she has seen her son smile and though she made a hard decision, it was worth it.
"Let me tell granny this wonderful news, I'm to have my family united again," he screamed, jumped out of bed, and ran out before she could stop him.
