Chapter 16

Two hours, that was how long it took for Jackson to teach Akina how to play video games and to say that Kyle was crushed would be an understatement. He had wanted to be the one to teach her but he wasn’t a patient teacher and the little incident didn’t help either. “Pay up loser,” Jackson said with a triumphant smile. “Told you all she needed was a better teacher and not your sorry arse.” Akina was smiling like crazy at the fact that she could play. It wasn’t like she had suddenly turned into a pro in only two hours. But Kyle still wanted to be the one to put that smile on her face. He didn’t want anyone doing it other than himself. “I can’t believe I lost,” Kyle sighed as he took out his wallet and sifted through it. “You did this to me Akina, I’ll get you both back for this.” Jackson and Akina both laughed. “Jackson is a better teacher,” Akina said still laughing. “You’ll get over it hot stuff.” That made them laugh even harder while Kyle scowled at them. They were finding pleasure in teasing him. “Using my own words against me, classic move.” Kyle took out a fifty and shoved it in Jackson’s hand as he pulled Akina up. “There, take it. We are leaving.” “But I want to play more,” Akina protested as she pouted her lips. It made her look like an adorable cute kid and Kyle had to shake his head to get that thought out of his head. “No, it’s already late and your dad won’t like me taking you home late,” Kyle picked up her phone from the couch. “You can come back at your own time and play as long as you both want, okay?” Akina looked over at Jackson who had a huge smile on his face. He nodded his head and Akina nodded hers too. It made a strange feeling swell through Kyle that he almost wanted to punch his friend in the face again. Something was definitely wrong somewhere. “Can’t we play just one more game?” Jackson asked amused. Kyle could see him enjoying it and that pissed him off. He wasn’t meant to be enjoying his misery like that. What kind of friend did that? “No, not today.” Kyle snapped, he didn’t mean to but he had and he couldn’t take it back. “You can play another time; now come on Akina we mustn’t get you home late.” Akina waved goodbye to Jackson as Kyle practically dragged her to his car. He unlocked it and opened the passenger’s side door for her. She got in and he closed the door before he walked over to the driver’s side and got in. Kyle sat there taking deep breathes in and out. He needed to calm his temper before he lashed out at the wrong person. “Are you okay?” Akina’s voice was small and sounded distant as Kyle tried getting his breathing under control. Taking one final deep breath, Kyle let it out and finally acknowledged her as being there. “Yeah I’m okay, let’s just get you home before your dad decides to have my head for keeping you out this long.” But it was still afternoon and they both knew that. “Okay.” Kyle started the car and sped out of Jackson’s driveway and street. He was speeding and he saw Akina tighten her hold on her seat-belt as she closed her eyes. He knew he was being reckless but he didn’t care, he was pissed off and needed to burn off some steam and he knew exactly what he needed, or more like who he needed to help him forget. Within no time, he was pulling up in his driveway and Akina finally released a sigh of relief. “Never drive like that again,” she said as she clutched her heart with her eyes still closed. Kyle could see her hyperventilate and he felt guilty a bit for causing her to panic. “I’m sorry.” Akina took a deep breath and then opened her eyes. “I wanted to talk to you about something.” She bit her lip and Kyle was reminded of how innocent she was, she wasn’t like Keira and that fact hit him hard. “Sure, what is it?” Akina fingered her skirt and Kyle was getting impatient but he didn’t want to tell her to hurry it up. “Why did you lie to me?” her voice sounded so small that if Kyle wasn’t near her then he wouldn’t have heard anything at all. Kyle racked his brain for what he could have possibly lied about but came up blank. “Lied about what?” “The party,” Akina took a visible breath before she continued. Kyle swallowed, she remembered and she wanted answers. That was the only thing that he could think off and he almost hit his head on the steering wheel. He knew this moment would come, he just figured it would after a long while. “What about the party?” he asked with an air of nonchalance. “I know someone tried to r**e me. Why didn’t you tell me?” Darn, that was exactly what he was expecting to come out of her mouth. But that didn’t mean he was prepared for it either. He needed time to find the right words but it seemed his time was now up. “I….” he stammered. f**k, this was hard. “I didn’t want you to worry about it.” That was a lame excuse but that was the best he could come up with on such short notice. “I asked you and you lied straight to myself. You told me nothing happened and I believed you because I thought you of all people understood me,” Akina said, her eyes glazed over with unshed tears and felt his breathe get logged in his throat. He was the reason for those unshed tears, the reason she sounded so broken and hurt. “I am sorry, I just,” Kyle was at a loss for words. Where the hell was his brain when he needed it the most? “I knew I failed you and I didn’t want you to look at me like a failure, I’m really sorry I lied about everything.” Akina grabbed her bag and placed her hand on the door handle, “you still lied to me and the thing that hurts the most is that I had to find out from your friends when you should have been the one to tell me.” She opened the door and Kyle grabbed her other hand. “Please, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. Give me another chance to prove to you that you can trust me again.” He was begging her and his anger had vanished. He needed her to forgive him for lying, he thought he was protecting her but he only made things worse, f**k, he was such a screw up. Akina jerked her hand out of his hold as the first tear rolled down her cheek. “I don’t want to see you ever again. I think I need space from you right now.” And then she slammed the car door and dashed to her house. Kyle quickly got out of his car and ran after her. He couldn’t have their friendship end just like that, he was going to fight with everything he had. He caught up to her just as she was about to turn the door knob and grabbed her hand, turning her to face him. There were tears running down both her cheeks and she looked down as she wiped them off with her palm. “You can’t do this to me Akina, you can’t just leave because I screwed up,” Kyle said and then wiped a lone tear with his thumb. “I’m sorry I lied but that’s no grounds for you to not want to see me again.” He had to convince her otherwise. “I can’t, please leave.” Akina said still not looking at him as she pulled her hand out from his hold, opened her front door and got in. Kyle was left standing there and everything came crushing down on him at full force. “You’re being a coward and pushing me away because you’re afraid of getting attached,” Kyle shouted and then walked over to his car. He drove to the address that had become engraved in his mind that he didn’t need to check his phone. When Kyle got there he got out and hastily knocked on the door and waited impatiently. The door swung open and Keira was standing there with a pissed off expression. But it quickly changed when she saw him standing there. “I thought you had something better to do,” she said as she opened the door wider for him to enter. Kyle entered and she closed the door behind him. “I figured I could come over and you know,” he said and then smashed lips on hers. She tasted like mint and mouth wash. “Not that I’m complaining about this visit but what changed your mind?” Keira asked as she pulled away from him. She moved out of his hold and sat down on the only available couch and then patted the spot next to her. Kyle sighed but walked over and sat down. He ran a hand through his hair and stared off into space. “Hello, I’m talking to you,” Keira snapped her fingers in front of him and Kyle snapped out of his thoughts. “Sorry, what did you say?” Keira rolled her eyes and scooted a little closer to him. Kyle didn’t mind, after all that was the main reason he had come to her. She began to gently ran her hand up and down his arm in a s****l way which only made him want to take her there and then but he held himself back. “What’s bothering you handsome?” she asked as she continued to ran her hand up and down his arm and then moved to his thigh. “You can talk to me about it.” Kyle sighed, he didn’t know whether he should tell her what was bothering him so much. He didn’t want to seem like a wuss or an emotional person. “It’s nothing, just forget about it.” He pulled her closer and placed open mouth kisses on her neck. He moved her to his lap and she was now straddling him as she ran her hands through his hair. “Oh gosh, that feels so good,” Keira moaned and tugged on his hair. If he wasn’t so pissed off, he would have found pleasure in hearing her moans of pleasure. Kyle trailed kisses up to her mouth and claimed it. Their tongues danced to a never ending beat that only they could hear. “Okay pause,” Keira moved from his lap and resumed her position. She turned to face him with her pink pouty lips that were now swollen from their kiss. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and folded her arms. Kyle was frustrated, he didn’t want to talk, all he wanted to do was have s*x with a beautiful girl, was that too much to ask for? “What now?” he sighed. He was already hard and he needed to get his fix as soon as she stopped disrupting him. “Can’t we just have s*x and not talk about our feelings and emotions like a bunch of girls?” Keira shot him a look at that. “Watch it, I’m still a girl and the fact that you’re hot doesn’t mean I can’t and won’t kick you out of my house.” “I’m sorry. It’s just that I have a lot on my mind. I’m not usually an arsehole.” “Do you want to talk about it?” “Not really.” “Okay, but talking about it might get your mind of it and maybe then we can have s*x,” Keira said and then stood up. She walked to what Kyle figured was the kitchen and then returned with a bottle of Jack Daniels. Keira sat and down and opened the bottle. She took a long swing from it before handing it over to him. Kyle looked at it then at her, he shrugged and took it from her before he too took a swing from it. The alcohol burned his throat as it went down but the effects soon faded. “Alcohol fixes everything,” Keira said with a triumphant smile and took a swing from the bottle. “You still don’t want to talk about?” She was egging him on, he knew that but what would he lose by talking about his problems? His pride maybe. Throwing all caution to the wind, he told her everything; from Mariah to how he met Akina as they drunk bottle after bottle. “So I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now,” Kyle said as he took the last drink from their fifth bottle. “What do you think I should do?” Kyle was now drunk, he couldn’t think properly and he doubted he could even drive back home. Keira giggled, she wasn’t as drunk as he was. Heck, Kyle thought she was pretending to drink the entire time. But he didn’t care, he felt good. “You should give this Akina girl time to cool off and then I’m sure she’ll come around,” Keira said with a thoughtful look in her eyes. Man, she looked gorgeous the way the light was reflecting in her baby blue eyes. Okay so he was totally drunk. “If I were you, I would forget all about Mariah and focus on Akina. She seems like a challenge that shouldn’t go to waste.” Kyle rolled his head as he slouched back on the couch. Keira took the bottle from him and placed it on the table with the other four bottles. “I think that’s enough drinking for the night,” she said with a smug smile. “Besides, we wouldn’t want you to miss picking up Akina for school.” At the mention of Akina’s name, Kyle shot up and nearly face planted onto the floor as he lost his footing but luckily Keira caught him just in time. “I have to go,” he said. “I don’t think you should be driving in your condition,” she said as she pushed him back on the couch. “You need to rest and let me take care of you, just for the night.” There was an air of something, something that Kyle couldn’t put his finger on what exactly it was. “But I need to go,” he slurred as his eyes drifted shut and then open. “No can do. I wouldn’t want to be responsible for your death now would I?” Keira said in a sing song voice as she ran her hands through his hair. “You can spend the night over, I don’t mind.” Kyle’s eyes rolled to the back of his head. He was way too drunk to drive and he could feel himself go in and out of consciousness. “But…. I, Akina,” his words were coming out incoherently. Keira stood up and helped him to his feet. “C’mon let’s get you to bed.” Kyle let her lead him to her room where she sat him down on the bed and pushed him on it. There was an amused smile toying on her lips. “You shouldn’t be drinking like that you know?” she said incredulously as she took off his shoes. “This won’t really help your situation with Akina.” “I didn’t mean to lie to her,” he said and then rolled over on his side. “I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry Akina.” “You really like this girl, don’t you?” “No, I don’t. I don’t know, maybe.” “Sleep.” That was the last thing that Kyle heard as he finally let sleep take over.                                                                  ******************* Kyle woke up with a massive hangover and he cursed himself for drinking out of control again. He didn’t like drinking, but it always helped him forget what he needed even though it was just for a while. “Morning sleepy head.” He turned and found Keira staring at him with an amused smile. “Couldn’t handle your liquor?” “I feel like death came and played with me,” he said as he sat up and leaned against the headboard. “Why did I drink so much?” “You were pretty out of it when you over,” Keira said and then got up. She was in nothing but her underwear. “Did we have s*x?” Keira walked over to her closet and rummaged around. She pulled up a pair of black ripped skinny jeans and a purple tank top. “As much fun as that would have been, I don’t take advantage of drunk guys,” she answered as she put on her clothes. Kyle felt sick to his stomach, the Jack Daniels wasn’t agreeing with him. “Where’s the bathroom?” “First door on your right.” He sprung out of bed and dashed to the bathroom where he threw up. He was never going to drink that much ever again, was what he told himself but he knew he wouldn’t be able to do that. “You okay in there?” Keira asked standing by the door with a smirk on her face. “Not even close,” Kyle replied as he washed his mouth. “Do you have some Tylenol?” “Second cabinet from you,” Keira jerked her head and Kyle searched for it. He popped the bottle and took out four pills. “Should you be taking that many?” Kyle looked at himself in the mirror over the sink. His hair was tousled, his eyes looked hallow and sunken in. He generally looked like he felt, horrible. “I think I’ll take my chances with that.” He swallowed the pills. “Mind if I take a shower before I head out?” “Help yourself to it.” Kyle took a quick shower and then dried himself. He felt way better and now he was dreading going back home. Linda would no doubt let him have it and he wasn’t yet ready for her scolding. “What should I do about Akina?” he asked as he joined Keira in the kitchen. “You want my honest opinion?” “Yeah.” “Don’t give up on her just yet.”
