During the holiday season, many people bought jewelry as gifts, so the jewelry business was booming.
When the carriage stopped outside the Golden Jewelry Store, Priscilla was surprised to see the store crowded.
The year-end promotion with discounted jewelry on the first floor had drawn large crowds.
Priscilla wondered why business was so good when she'd been told otherwise.
Before she could get out to check, Adelaide said, "Susan, go ask if they have gem-embedded gold bracelets. I'll buy a few if they do."
"Why not go in yourself?" Priscilla asked.
Adelaide, in formal wear, didn't want to draw attention. She replied, "It's too crowded. I don't want to ruin my new dress."
Priscilla agreed it was too risky for her to go in with all those people.
So she sent Susan.
