When we crept back into the cavern, Malvolio wasn’t there. It was just as well with the increased electromagnetic field. Using my Talent was harder than before.
I sucked in a breath when I saw Sharwok’s body. I still couldn’t believe Malvolio had killed him. It was surreal.
The nausea increased and I had to look away.
Daniel’s face was twisted with grief and he turned away too. “We need to be close enough to blast it, but far enough away that we won’t be hit by the Lightning or debris.”
I walked over to the device. “Wait. What if I could work out how to—”
“There’s no time.”
He didn’t stop me. We had nothing to lose. The panel was open, but Sharwok’s interface had been removed. There was no way for me to interact with the device at all.
I sighed. “I had to try.”
