The Devils Smile

TheBeginning

The sound of metal hitting metal fills the air as my dad and I spar. "Keep your elbows bent and firm Oaks" My dad yells at me after countering the attack I just tried on him. I straighten my sword and go after him again, this time quicker than last time. I make contact with his sword and slide mine to the side, hoping to get it out from under his. I come up unsuccessful in my attempt. My dad stops grinning at me. "That was a lot better, keep it up and you'll have no problem being the top swordswoman". I smile back, wiping the sweat off my forehead. It's a nice day, blue skies and a little gust of wind. The sun has been out for a few hours, making it warm enough for me to be comfortable in my black tanktop. "Let's call it a day" he says, slinging his arm around my shoulder and leading me in the direction of the house. I've lived in this house since I was a baby. I've always loved it. The pretty white paint with baby blue trim and nice big windows. It's one of the nicer houses in the area due to the fact that my dad commands the king's army and has since I was born. The smell of freshly baked bread hits my nose as we make our way into the kitchen. It's a nice big, spacious kitchen. One of my moms request when my dad asked her to marry him. "Mmm momma it smells yummy" I sigh, drooling a little bit. My mom laughs "Well you wont be getting any until dinner". I huff, knowing if I tried to argue it would be a losing battle. "Papa, when do you think they will make their decision on who gets to join or not?" I turn back to him. He is seated at our small square table. The table is fairly mediocre compared to the rest of the house. He glances up at me, then mom, knowing she hates it when we talk about this. "Probably here within the next few days". He starts slowly. "I wouldn't worry too much if I were you though". I nod, understanding what he means. I grew up learning from the best, a swordsmen specialist. There should be no reason why I am not good enough to make the cut. There should honestly be no reason why I'm not the best trainee they accept.
