Jayce, meet Jade

*Jayce POV*

My mind was spinning. A wolf. A flipping wolf! How could I be so blind? I guess that makes sense as to why my attraction to Micah was getting stronger. Also explains why I was so ok with the idea of being a big old fluff ball in a very short time.

"Wait! Micah. I have a question before I go through this. When you said that I am a target because I'm your mate. What does that mean?" Micah's face and shoulders dropped as he let out a long sigh.

"I'm the Alpha of this pack. You are my mate, the future Luna. If something were to happen to you, I would become weak, unable to function and the pack would become easier to attack. My Little Bird, strip so you don't tear your clothes. I won't look. I promise. Keep listening to my voice. Let it guide your shift."

His voice became distant as I started to remove my clothes in a hurry. The pain came fast, the sound of my bone shifting, and breaking was horrific. I don't know what's worse. I could hear Micah telling me it was almost done.

It's about time you let me through. I've been trying to reach you for weeks! Name's Jade. I'm your wolf. I hear you just found out about me, so I'll let you get back to our mate. I can't wait to see his wolf!

I looked over at Micah and saw he was on his knees. 

You are beautiful Little Bird.

How? I can hear you. Can you hear me?

Yes baby. You are a member of my pack and my mate. We can talk to each other without anybody else butting in. Now, shift back to me baby.

A few cracks and pops and I was standing naked in Micah's back yard.

"Your clothes are on the blanket baby. Get dressed." Micah had put my clothes all nice and folded on the blanket. 

"What if I say no? It's so hot. And we are going to end up naked any way." I had walked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist pressing my body against his. I wasn't close enough. I started pulling at his shirt before ripping it to shreds. He spun around, lifting me to wrap my legs around his waist.

"How about we move this inside? I don't need the neighbors staring at my mate."

*Micah POV*

When I saw her wolf for the first time, she took my breath away. My wolf, Mason, was spinning, begging to be let out. 

Not now Mason. This is her first shift. Let her explore her new self. Tomorrow you can run.

When she looked my direction, my legs gave out on me. Her icy blue eyes seem to glow, her fur was the same fire red as her hair and despite her small stature in human form, her wolf was just about as big as mine. I saw her start to shift so I spun around and told her that her clothes were on the blanket. When I felt her little hand wrap around my waist, then tear my shirt right off my body, I knew we would be getting no sleep. Looking at her as she lay wrapped around me, I couldn't help but smile. 

"We should probably talk about the whole marking and mating thing. It's kind of important." I looked down at her. She sat up, propping herself up on her elbows.

"As my mate, you will bear my mark. It's a way of letting other males know that you are taken. Once I mark you, it would be a matter of days before you fall into heat. If we mate before I mark you, that heat will come sooner and will be harder to break. I think it would be best to wait until after our hike tomorrow to mark you. It wouldn't be smart to have you in heat on our hike."

"Micah. If it takes days before my heat hits after you mark me, wouldn't it be best to mark me before we go? Like you said. It will keep the boys at bay." She wiggled her eyebrows at me playfully as she worked her way onto my lap. 

"Keep that up and you'll definitely end up mated and marked."

"Does it hurt? Can I mark you?"

"No, as I have been told, it is very euphoric. And yes, you can mark me too. Now, let's get some sleep. We need to be up in less than 3 hours, and we still have to pack." Jayce had already settled back down at my side. Her breathing was more relaxed and within seconds of me rubbing her head, she was asleep. I followed right behind her.
