The week passed like a blur, a rollercoaster of events. Adrien avoided me, even though we bumped into each other a few times. Not a word left his mouth, and I didn't push it either. I was determined to move on.
It was Friday, Travis's birthday, and Lisa was doing my makeup. She insisted on making me look perfect for Travis. I told her everything about Adrien, and she encouraged me to move on. That's what I'm doing, even though I feel the makeup is a bit too much and not necessary.
"Done," she said, dropping the lipstick on the mirror stand and clapping her hands happily. I don't need to look at the mirror to know I look perfect. The look on her face says it all.
"Don't you want to see how you look?" she asked.
Well, if I'm being honest, no, I really don't care how I look. I just want to get this night over with.
"I'm sure I look perfect," I replied nonchalantly.
The look on her face changed into an angry one. "An hour," she yelled. "It took me an hour to work on your makeup, and now you don't even want to see how it looks."
She's right to be angry. It took her an hour to do my makeup. The least I can do is appreciate it.
I slowly raised my head to look at my reflection, and I was starstruck. How? How did she do it? Wow, from my painted lips to my eyeliner to my blush to my eyebrows, everything screamed perfection. Wow, I look different, but in a good way. Wow, she should really consider being a makeup artist because this is amazing.
I wrapped my hands around her and pulled her into a hug. "This is truly amazing, thank you” I said, my voice filled with gratitude
"Thank you so much, Lis," I said again, my voice filled with gratitude. She pulled away from the hug and gave me a small smile, her eyes sparkling with warmth. She held my hands gently and looked into my eyes. "I know you're not happy, but there are so many guys out there, and you haven't even found your mate yet. Adrien is a jerk, and he doesn't deserve you. Cheer up and stop beating yourself up," she said, her voice filled with concern.
She cupped my cheeks in her hands and smiled warmly. "You will turn 18 soon, and you will find your mate. But now, how about we put all this boy talk behind us and have a good time? This is your first party, and I want you to have fun," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
I nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over me. She's right, this is my first party, and I need to have fun. I need to forget about Adrien and get myself drunk. That's what parties are for, after all.
"Let's do it," I said with a smile, and she giggled and hugged me tightly. "That's the spirit. Now, let's get dressed. The party will start soon," she said, her voice filled with excitement.
We started getting ready, and I couldn't help but wonder if Adrien would be present at the party. Travis is kinda like his friend, right? He should be there, right? I pushed the thought aside and focused on getting ready.
We got dressed, and we both looked amazing. Lisa's blonde hair was packed into a sleek ponytail, and her makeup was simple yet glamorous. She was wearing a red short one-shoulder long sleeve gown, showing off her tanned collarbone adorned with a beautiful golden necklace and a pair of earrings. I was wearing the same dress as her, but mine was black. I specially picked it; it's Adrien's favorite color. My wavy hair was packed into a ponytail with small strands dropping on my face, and my makeup was dark but glamorous. On my neck was a black choker necklace.
We got down from the taxi, and the view in front of us was wild. Loud music was booming from the house, and I could see people drinking with red plastic cups and some making out shamelessly, not being able to keep their hands to themselves. I wasn't used to parties, and from the sight of this one, this will definitely be my first and last party.
Lisa dragged me inside, and the moment we made our way inside, everybody turned to look at us. I could hear loud whispers. "Is that the omega girl?" one said. "Bro, I thought she was hot before, but she looks even hotter now," another replied. And I could feel my face heat up, people actually thought I was pretty. I have lived in Adrien's shadow for so long, I never really interacted with anyone but Lisa. It's nice to know that people think I'm pretty.
Lisa handed me a red cup, and I looked at her in confusion. "It's punch, drink it," she said, and I gulped it down my throat. It tasted okay, but I didn't want more.
"Let's go say hi to the birthday boy, then we'll hit the dance floor," Lisa said excitedly, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. I followed her up the stairs, and we saw Travis talking to some guys from our class. As soon as his eyes met mine, he smiled widely and exclaimed, "You came!" He pulled me into a hug, which caught me off guard. I didn't know how to react at first, but before I could wrap my hands around him, he pulled away shyly.
"I'm sorry, I'm just a bit excited. I didn't know you would come," he said, flashing me a warm, happy smile. I smiled back at him, feeling a sense of happiness wash over me. "I wouldn't miss it for the world," I replied, my voice filled with sincerity.
Travis looked at me for a while, and Lisa cleared her throat loudly, breaking the spell. "Erm, you can have your staring contest later," she said with a chuckle, wrapping her hand around Travis. "Happy birthday, Travis!" she exclaimed, and their voices started to blur as my mind wandered off.
I hadn't seen Adrien yet, and I couldn't help but wonder where he was. I knew he loved parties, and Lisa had told me stories of their steamy truth and dare games. But why wasn't he here? I thought to myself as I scanned the room for him.
"Earth to Rose," Lisa said in a loud voice, tapping my shoulder. I diverted my attention back to her and the smiling Travis. "Yeah?" I replied, my voice a bit distracted.
"Travis would like to dance with you," Lisa said, pushing Travis closer to me. He smiled shyly and looked at me with a hint of nervousness. "Erm, if you wouldn't mind?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Dance? Well, it wouldn't hurt to have some fun. I pushed the thought of Adrien to the back of my mind and took Travis's hand. He led me to the dance floor, and everybody started waving their bodies to the music. I did the same, letting the beat take over my body. I felt Travis's hands on my hips, and we danced together, lost in the moment.
But then, suddenly, the music died down, and everybody went silent. "GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER!" a voice boomed, and I felt a chill run down my spine.
