Detective Superintendent Amanda Bruce was in her office with Jo-Jums and Jackie Phillips. Jo-Jums was the nickname given to Detective Inspector Josephine Wild, also known as Ma’amsie, a derivation of Mumsey, which described the appearance and nature of this short, middle aged, and comfortably plump, astute and very intelligent police officer. Jo-Jums had been a police colleague of Jack Austin for more years than she cared to recollect, so of course accepted her co-opting into MI5, as well as her nickname, all as a matter of course. With Jack Austin if you didn’t have a nickname you just felt, out of it, though only the special few were co-opted into the secret services.
