I felt my heart shake when she said that. I didn't expect her to come up with something like that at a moment like this. Why was she just so cynical and evil? The tension that had gripped me now was further heightened when Jax's hand tightened around mine as he stopped me.
I took a deep breath and turned around to see him staring down at the floor as if he was thinking about what she had just said. I wondered what his reaction was going to be. Was he going to hurt her for what she had said? He had seriously warned her last time about saying anything bad about me, and he had just warned my parents about their remarks, yet Talia had just made one of such remarks in his presence.
I wondered if she was trying to know how far she could go until Jax reacted.
