We thought there were a lot of stars in the sky because there were so many of them. The cool grass next to me and the silence between us were like nothing we'd ever heard in battle. She held her knees close to her chest and looked up at the stars with golden eyes. But I could feel the storm inside her…she was still shocked by what we had found out.
It felt like a war drum in my chest. I had to tell her. It was no longer possible for me to hide the past.
