Mira’s POV Even though there was silence in the council room, the sounds of mayhem could still be heard. It was difficult to breathe because of the lingering smell of charred wood and Elder Varen's final cry. I stood among the ashes and confusion that had previously been a place of order. Ryker was standing nearby, staring at me. I searched for appreciation and understanding on his face, but all I saw was slience. His eyes were impenetrable; beneath a placid façade was a tempest of emotions. Cassian approached and placed a solid hand on my shoulder. His voice remained firm as he said, "You ended what your father couldn't." Although I nodded, his words didn't really calm the roil inside of me.
