Alpha Xavier’s POV
This is insane. I love it.
Adrenaline pumps through my veins, making my chest rise and fall. It's the closest thing to feeling alive I’ve felt in a long while.
The ringmaster gives me a glance that says, “last chance.”
I smirk and his pitiful look morphs into a glare. The naked ladies perform a twirling dance which the crowd cheers to.
While they do their brief performance, my eyes scan the ten giant Lycans around me, and my blood runs hotter.
Will I survive? Is this the last view I’d have before going into the dark forever?
How I wish it was someone pretty, not this bunch of uglies.
“This is a waste of our time.” One Lycan spits out in annoyance. “I wanted a challenge.”
“Calm.” Another one whose teeth are sharpened akin to tiny blades hisses. “The money is good. We can have other fights later on.”
I laugh out.
“What's funny?” Another big guy snaps.
I flex my arms and c***k my neck. “I’ll double the amount if you all can win in under five minutes.”
The whole bunch breaks into hysterical laughter and even the ringmaster joins them.
“This guy must be high on something.” The ringmaster shakes his head and then calls on the bouncers to prepare a rug to roll my body when I inevitably lose.
“I don't normally spare people, but for this funny joke I’ll let you live.” Shark Teeth says, grinning. His brothers grumble. “Let the little man live, maybe without his limbs though.”
They break out into laughter again, and I feel my guts form a tight knot.
“For someone so ugly, you should have better humor at least.”
His smile wipes from his face in half a second, his facial muscles squeezing with tension. He looks like a standing shark.
I don't see the kick; I only feel the violent jerk of my spine as my legs give out.
The dancers scream and run out of the ring. They cheated; the match hasn't begun yet as the ringmaster hasn't even rung the bell or set his timer right.
I’m on the floor, and the Lycans have swarmed me. Four of them hold me up, stretching my hands and legs wide apart.
Their strength is unbelievable and their grasp alone feels like I’m about to be torn apart into four equal shreds.
They lift me high into the air and then pull me back down to the floor. My hand bangs against the floor, causing my eyes to roll almost completely back in my skull. The most pain comes from my spine, which feels like it snapped on impact.
“Xavier no!” I hear a distant scream.
Maybe the hit has spoiled my brain for me to be hearing things, because there's no chance any one of these degenerates recognizes me. Most are foreigners anyway.
The Lycans repeat slamming me onto the ground over and over again until my bones feel lighter than feathers.
I shut my eyes, and when I open them, ten pairs of eyes are staring at me to check if I’m dead.
I grin, much to their disgust.
My legs kick upward, knocking down two of them as I balance my feet back on the floor.
The rest rush at me with blows; I bend backward, my knees scraping against the rough floor as I drive my fists into their groins.
Getting up, I wrap my arm around one of the big guys and swing onto his shoulder, my feet locking his neck and then turning to the left. His neckbone snaps with a loud c***k.
The crowd roars, but I pay no mind to them as I hop onto another guy just before the other body drops to the floor. He holds my leg and tries to bring me down. I allow him, but as I descend, my arms cling to his head and I use my weight to pull him down, his head smashing against the floor.
Two down, four injured, and four standing.
As hope rises inside me, it's snuffed out by the clanking sound of metal. I turn around and see Sharkface bring out a box of deadly weapons.
In a normal match, such weapons aren't allowed, but these are Lycans; they don't play fair.
Sharkface nods his head and the remaining three march toward me. As they approach, I quickly move to the fallen Lycans to finish off the job. As I slam my elbow into the fourth Lycan's head, the sound of chains whipping through the air catches my attention, but before I can dodge, it hits me across my back.
I yell as the pain overcomes me. I crash onto the bloody body of the dead Lycan.
They gather around me, swinging their chains and knives, slicing into my back. The sound of my ripping flesh is all I can hear.
This is the end.
I open my eyes and all I can see is my blood running down my face and body until I’m kneeling in a pool of my blood.
I should be happy now; this is what I’ve wanted for years. Death, something to bring an end to all this misery and pain I feel inside.
Just as I surrender to my fate, my blood runs cold and my skin freezes.
Zakar takes over control, my skin stiffening like steel, and their knives and chains bounce off.
The crowd roars into life as I lift my body into the air and do a flip to the back of the Lycans.
They turn around and the blood washes off their faces; dread fills them as they see Zakar's blood-red eyes.
The crowd can’t see my eyes, only them.
“He’s an Al-”
Before they can speak, Zakar leaps into the air and his claws dig into them, ripping them apart viciously. It takes less than ten seconds for the floor to be tainted red.
Zakar shrieks as he tears apart the ninth Lycan. But our voice lowers to a low whimper as a blade drives into my back with so much force it pushes through me and out to my front.
The crowd becomes quiet and I can hear someone crying and screaming.
My head lowers as I gasp, blood dripping from my lips.
Zakar is mad and furious—not at the Lycans, but at me. Guilt fills me as I’ve allowed my own bitterness to end us.
“I’m sorry.” I mutter as control falters between us. Zakar yells out through my throat and he gains back control, falling off the blade and down onto the floor.
He wiggles on the floor, blood making a wet sound.
Sharkface laughs out as he watches me wiggle toward him. But Zakar is furious and moves quickly, like a crocodile in water.
The smile washes off Sharkface as Zakar grabs his left boot with my teeth and grabs his knee tight, pulling him down to the floor.
As he kneels, Zakar gives a direct hit to his throat with our claws. Blood spurts out and Sharkface chokes in disbelief, life fading out of his widened eyes.
The crowd roars with life, people storming into the ring to jeer at me.
My vision blurs as I lay in my blood. There's a hole passing through my stomach.
“He won't make it.” The ringmaster tells the others celebrating. “But he’ll die a legend of the ring!” He ululates happily.
As the crowd jives and dances around, life fades away gradually.
Then like a miracle, I hear a voice.
“Give way, I can help him.”
I open my eyes and through the bloodshot view, I see Raina.
She's looking down at me, just like she did on our wedding day while we played in the rose garden, her dark hair grazing my neck.
Just like I had done several years ago, my shaky hand lifts to touch her face, blood smearing her cheek. “My angel.”
“Don't go dying on me.” She sobs, ripping her shirt to press into my stomach.
I smile and shut my eyes, a single teardrop escaping down the side of my face. “My Raina.”
