JAS COULDN’T SLEEP that night. If the Shadows had invaded Dawn, everyone on the planet was at risk. But she had no proof, and without it, maybe no one would believe her, not even Lingiari. There was certainly no point in telling Haggardy of her suspicions. He wouldn’t take any action even if he believed her. If he was interested in anything other than saving his own skin, he would have acted aboard the Galathea.
There was also still the chance that he wasn’t the real Haggardy. The testing protocols must have failed and allowed Shadows onto the planet, either from the Galathea or another ship. If the tests were faulty, they could have let a Shadow Haggardy through, and any other Shadows that had arrived with him.
