JAS PUT THE MAN IN the vehicle she’d left at the entrance to the alley, telling him she would get transportation somewhere else when she’d finished her sweep of the city. She jogged the remaining streets, but found no one else who should have been returning to the Galathea. Back at the hostel, she found the place empty except for the receptionist, who scowled at her sourly. She ran upstairs to her room, threw her things into a bag, and raced down to the street. When she got to the parking bay for the vehicles that went to the shuttle base, there were none. Never mind, she thought, she could jog to the base. She could probably do it in less than a couple of hours. She adjusted her bag so that it was as comfortable as she could get it, and set off down the road out of town. She settled in
