I felt like scum.
I’d promised Eve I’d come check on her after the wedding… to make sure that bastard hadn’t hurt her, to make sure she was okay. But Alpha Xavier had whisked me away on a last-minute trip, and I was already under his suspicious eye.
Some protector I was. I couldn’t even protect the only person I’d ever felt something for. Just a glorified lapdog watching from the sidelines while another man took what was mine.
But was she really mine?
I hadn’t stopped them from trading her like property. I hadn’t ripped the world apart to keep her safe. Maybe she was better off with Alpha Dante. At least he had the strength to guard what was his.
